Ok, how sad am I?  It's Thu afternoon--2 days before we race at Latta.  In five weeks, I'll have done 2 sprints, my first Oly, and two time trials and I'm already jonesing for my next race.  I'm planning on going back to JF Hurley in Salisbury.  This was my first ever race (last July) and I'm curious to compare where I am now vs then.

Race Format:
This race is patterned after the highly successful and popular Kure Beach Double Sprint. Now this alternative format triathlon is available to folks in the greater Charlotte market for the first time. Talk to folks who have raced at Kure Beach for the past seven years - this format is loads of fun - and something different! Participants begin with a 375 meter swim, run 1.35 miles, bike 20K, run the same 1.35 mile course again, and finish with another 375 meter swim. Ever run across the finish line in your speedo?

Swim:
Participants will begin the race with a 375 meter swim, and finish the race with another 375 meter swim. The water temperature will be well above 80 degrees making wetsuits illegal for this race. The swim course for the 1st swim and the course for the 2nd swim will be slightly different - but both will be triangular shaped courses. The start of swim # 1 and the swim finish locations are about 100 yards apart. The start of swim #2 is only about 20 yards from the swim finish location.

Run:

Following the swim comes the first of two runs – a 1.35 mile run. The entire run course is heavily shaded and takes competitors through the camping area on a paved road. It's an out & back design course, with a little loop at the far end. Remember, this run course will be done twice - the same course each time. This run course is rated as one of the very best in the NCTS.

Bike:
Following the first 1.5 mile run, participants head out on the one-loop 20K bike course. The bike course has also been well received since the race moved to Dan Nicholas Park. The course is held on the rural roads of Rowan County and participants will encounter very light traffic on race day. The one-loop course has a nice mixture of some moderate hills, fairly flat sections, and very few turns.

So---who's in?  It'll be a great warm-up for Lake Logan as it's two weeks before that race.  Come on Barn Door (you know who you are!!!)--Let's go racing!

I'm in for this race. I haven't done it since they switched the format but I am looking forward to it. Does the run still go through the campground? This was my favorite part of the race. I loved running by the tents as people were waking up and crawling out of their tents with these puzzled looks on their faces.

It's likely that I'll be officiating this race. It was my inaugural race as a swimmer for a relay team last year. I looked at it as two opportunities to practice my OWS skills. Fortunately, I'm almost as fast on the 750 as I was on the 375 last year ... that counts for something, right?

Good luck everyone ... and ... watch those cycling penalties.
