So a buddy and I rented the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift last night, and of course, drooled over pretty much all the cars.  Obviously some money had been poured in to those machines to make them look, sound, and perform like they did.  I do still have a hard time believing that a Mustang body with a Japanese engine under the hood would perform like it did (too heavy of a frame), but hey, it's Hollywood.  Anyway, I'm just curious to see, what do you like better: American Muscle or Tricked Out Imports?  I'm thinking some of those imports sure looked sweet, but I like me some Mustang, too.  Tough choice...!

I like American muscle cars.

Most of the tricked out imports I've seen around here are nothing but previously serviceable Hondas morphed into a piece of garbage, complete with a muffler that produces chain-saw like sounds, an ill fitting plastic ground effects kits, and spoilers that stick-up 3 feet off the top of the car making it look like there's a picnic table on the trunk of the car. Is a spoiler really necessary on a front wheel drive car, btw?

Big fan of REAL sports cars (not a honda).  German is the only way to go!

Ooops first import fan here. I always enjoyed slapping around SOME, not all, 'Stangs and 'Maros on the drag strip, the road courses and the autoX in my '93 Toyota MR2 RWD Turbo. I put a few bucks into it and it was awesome. Looked nice too. The wife hated it.

That said, I do enjoy the muscle cars, especially the older ones. Nothing nicer than a '68 Camaro or a '66 Mustang 289. The 80s Firebirds (the 6.6 and 7.7) were always badass and of course Corvettes -- love Corvettes. I like lower-weight cars that are more maneuverable thought the twisties.

Man I miss that car. :(

I am partial . I can appreciate both , but I do Love my Porsche. (997 C2S) I love older muscle cars, but new mustangs and their ilk disgust me. The kid with a civic and a 4 inch can so it sounds like a herd of West Nile Mosquitoes gets on my nerves too. It can be tasteful both ways. The Nissan Skyline GTS- R34 is every enthusiasts dream, though. It will be neat to finally see Nissan import the next genereation, as a 2008.

American. I don't really care for Porsche, but I wouldn't turn one down if someone gave me one. I had a '67 Mustang 289. I used to race it on the drag against the boys in high school, a really fun car. My dad sold it when I moved away and didn't tell me until after; I was pissed. I wish I had a digital pic of it

I had an Alfa Spider for several years.  It was a really fun car and I liked the sound of the exhaust.  It was a physical shock when I got a Chevrolet Corsica to replace it. With three kids I had to have four doors.  Now, kids are gone, I have a Mini Cooper S.  It is actually a good bit better power, cornering, and gas mileage than the Alfa.  Times have changed.

I also had a Torino fastback with a 302 and a 4 barrel a long time ago in college.  It was sort of a dad version of a muscle car.  A little bigger, a little less muscle than the young guys.

I like american muscle cars, and sports cars.  A lot of the import tuner stuff is garbage, but some of it you really have to appreciate.  (MR2, Supra, 4wd turbo's)

I just can't stand the guys that take a stock Honda, add a heavy wing and ground effects kit paired with a coffee can exhaust and drive like they are all that.  You're not.

Quality addition to the conversation. Thanks.

ANYWAY ... yes I agree with you KRC, I can't stand that! Add a wing, a body kit, graphics and a muffler and you're still going to run 16s at the track.

I suppose some are all show and no go. hough I hear each APC, Yokohama and Greddy sticker takes off a half-second in the quarter mile.

If you're going with a modern sports car, and money is no object, get a TESLA!

Nothing wrong with American muscle cars, but let's not confuse cars that have lots of power and go fast in a straight line to cars that are actually meant to stay on the road and corner.

Hey opus...I don't think I've ever thought of this before, but how come there aren't any Canadian cars?

(or are there?)

There was a car called the Bricklin, I think, that was Canadian. Naturally the company went belly-up. But really, I don't know.

Beautiful car that's fast. Still heavy with lots of body roll and probably wouldn't be ideal on a road course or at an AutoX.
