Pre-race routine:

Drove up evening before and crashed on the floor of a friend of a friend. Didn't sleep all that great. Up at 4:15 for bagel and PB and get to UMD for bus ride to start.
Event warmup:

Stretch and pee. I need to start jogging a bit before a foot race.

Comments:

I could tell early on that this wasn't going to be a great run. Started out too fast, told faster friends to go on w/o me about mile 5. Walked a minute at mile 8, couldn't make the legs go faster. Day started to warm up, and never really felt comfortable. Ended up finishing about 8 minutes slower than the HM I ran 3 weeks ago. Still an acceptable time, I guess, but I ran so well in Rochester that I was starting to feel that things go well all the time. They don't.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely slacked in training last few weeks. I should try not doing that.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, drank water, Boost , beer. Watched full marathon lead finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, I guess. Mostly just wasn't prepared wnough.

Event comments:

Can't say enough about the overall event. Next year need to stay for the tent party, but came home shortly after race due to Father's Day.

Even though you were slower than you hoped that was still a solid run.  My wife, brother and sister in law also were at Med City and did the 20 miler.  They said the conditions were much better for that race.  Look forward to seeing you at Minneman.

Sounds like you still ran a nice race, Johnny - and like you said, not every day is a good day. The bad days teach us something.

See you around the Northland!
