Pre-race routine:

Had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sime gatorade at home. Got to the site and set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

Did a very short swim to just feel the water since this was my first OWS.
Swim
  • 17m 59s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the part that I was most nervous about. Standing on the shore the course looked much longer than 1/2 mile. I watched a few waves ahead of me and saw that the current was pushing everyone to the left. So I adjusted my starting position accordingly on the shore. Stayed near the back at the start of the wave. Once I got going I felt fine, I was able to do freestyle the whole way and no panic attacks. Got to the first buoy in good position to make the turn and headed for the second buoy. Rounded the second buoy and it felt like the shore line was miles away everytime I looked up to sight. I felt strong as the swim went on. Having a wetsuit helped. I could feel the differnce in the water.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I will definitely try and get a few OWS before my next tri.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

No problems here. The suit cam off rather quickly and I got my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

I am thinking about getting shoes for the bike.
Bike
  • 48m 52s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.73 mile/hr
Comments:

I am very disappointed with my performance on the bike. It felt like everyone and their mother was passing me. I don't know if I'm not going hard enough. I am having issued with my tires, I pumped them up when I got to tranisition and when I jumped on my bike it felt like I had two flats or they were really low. I wasn't going to attempt to change them so a I went forward. This has been a reacurring problem that I hope will be solved when a take the bike to the LBS to get new tires and tubes. Maybe I just need more T.I.T.S., I have been dying to do that.
What would you do differently?:

I need to put in more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

This is the fastest run time I have put in in any of my races. I wish they had mile markers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some water, gatorade and a snickers marathon bar.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Horrible bike time.

Event comments:
