Comments: What a difference from Cane Creek. I've had two OWS practices since then and really felt confident in the water this time. I was very happy with this performance and it just made me feel good for the rest of the race! I got lightly punched in the face once at the start, but was able to find clear water the rest of the time. I stayed outside to begin with, and was able to stay in line after it opened up. Sighting was GREAT for this event and I only strayed off course once when I didn't sight for about 20 strokes. Was able to correct that quickly. What would you do differently?: Just need to work on my speed and power. Very happy with results. Transition 1
Comments: Loooonnnggg run from the water to the transition area, but I ran the whole way (yay!). I had grass all over my feet and tried to wash them off as best as possible. Lost some time there, but I'm not sure what the negatives are if I ride/run with all that crap in my shoes. I can probably suck it up and survive. I tried not to sit down to get my shoes on and felt like all kinds of muscles in my legs and shoulders were cramping as I bent over... weird. What would you do differently?: Skip cleaning my feet. Bike
Comments: No issues here. I got passed... a lot. hehe... The bad thing about being slow and in the 2nd wave (Elites were first) is that I got passed by all the faster people in the later waves so I knew I was giving up 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 minute head starts on people as I saw their age group. That's humbling. The good part is that I could see how fast the fast people really are! WOW! Now I know where I need to be. I was pretty evenly lumped together in previous races so this really highlighted the differences. What would you do differently?: Train harder - need to get more comfortable in the big chainring climbing hills and staying in there with more power on the flats. Transition 2
Comments: Felt that cramping again. This time as I bent over it was in my upper thighs near my groin. It didn't bug me on the run, but it had me worried for a bit. What would you do differently?: Nuthing stands out. Run faster? Run
Comments: I'm suprised my time was this good, considering I walked on and off on the hills. Wow! I definitely felt that the run was my weakest part of this race and it showed. I did have some cramping in my legs this time too so that slowed me down. My outside right knee was bugging me and then my upper outside left quad. Wierd What would you do differently?: Perhaps training properly would help? ;) Post race
Warm down: For all the cramping I felt starting in T1, T2 and on the run, I had none at the end of the race. Go figure. I felt fine. Stretched a bit, grabbed a banana and gatorade (or whatever that sweet substitute crap was they were handing out) and met up with my friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. I slacked coming into this race. BUT... I had a blast! I got in the mindset to go and have fun and I really did. Best event so far! Event comments: Great event. I even volunteered for the Sunday race (Sat was AG, Sun was Novice) and had a blast doing that. I probably should have raced Niovice, but oh well. Last updated: 2006-12-20 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00am, ate a bagel and peanut butter and drank a Red Bull on the way to the race. Got there around 5:20, parked and walked about 15 minuets to the transition area. Plenty of time to set up, get my chip, use the facilities and never felt rushed for the 6:30 start.
Was able to get in the lake and swim for about 5 minutes. That really helped!
