Pre-race routine:

afternoon race, ate bread, hummus and cheese for lunch with carrot sticks - lots of hydration
Event warmup:

did some bobbing around, swam out to the first buoy and back - felt well warmed up

big focus was on the mental race for me - i am now comfortable in my wet suit - could have pushed myself more but didn't want to chance it- was a little hampered at first - seemed to have lost the warm up. did side stroke around first buoy, then alternated back and crawl but couldn't do the bi-lateral breathing
What would you do differently?:

nothing really, just because i could have gone faster in retrospect doesn't mean that i really could have

Wow, way to get through a tough run!  I'm sorry to say I laughed at your 'warmdown', somehow I don't think I want to adopt that as a typcial w/d - I'd guess you wouldn't either.  Anyway, great job, the next one will go better!
