Total Time = 1h 39m 55s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdales
Age Group Rank = 18/32
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am. Drove to the park. Had a bagel and peanut butter on the way. Got my TA set up and walked around finding some of the QCTC/BT Crew
Event warmup:

Not much--helping unload the Medic ATV was as much effort as I put out before race time
Swim
  • 15m 44s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swim. Still not happy with my performance but nobody controls that but me. If I want to do better, I need to put in the time in the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Be more conscientious about my swim workouts
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

Ran the whole way from the lake to the TA which is somewhat unusual for me. Felt really good. Not sure if it was all the crud built up in my cleats from the run thru the sand volleyball pit on the way out or what, but I had a lot of trouble getting my right foot clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

Not be a clutz with my cleat
Bike
  • 49m 48s
  • 17 miles
  • 20.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really strong on the bike. For the first 10 miles, I was knocking off people left and ride. About mile 10, the 40+ male biking crowd (which always surprises me how strong they are) came thru. More than a little drafting going on among that crowd. My goal for the bike was 51:00 and an avg speed of 20mph. Pretty happy with this one
What would you do differently?:

nothing..maybe drink a little more on the bike. If it had been hot, I would have been in trouble
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Another pretty good TA
What would you do differently?:

not leave my run number the first time. Fortunately, my rack was 12 feet from the Run start so I didn't loose but a few secs
Run
  • 29m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt really strong. Usually walk a lot in the first mile. Today I ran almost the entire first mile before I took a 30sec walk break. Only one other walk break the entire race (about 15 secs). Probably my best 5k ever. Ran with another Clydesdale from Pinehurst for about 2 miles. Really strong on mile 1--almost too much so (approx 9:03 split). Mile 2 felt a little drained (approx 10:05). Pretty strong thru Mile 3. We caught up with Rob (sunrisin) about half way thru the run. Kicked it into a higher gear with about 1/3 mile left. Ended up dropping my running partner. Sprinted in hard.
What would you do differently?:

Run even harder
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with the QCTC crowd waiting on people we knew to finish. Had a great time and wish the rest of the crew had been racing today instead of tomorrow.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me

Event comments:

Really like this race. The cops did an awesome job with traffic. I only saw/interacted with 4 vehicles during my entire ride. These were all ones that had come out of neighborhoods into the middle of the course.

Great race Eric. Enjoyed meeting you. Thats a great bike. Know what you mean about the 40 year old age group cycling. I'm in it and have a hard time making up ground after an average swim.

How many tri's have you done?  good job.  I'm enjoying everyone's race reports.  I've been out of town (well the country) for 17 days.  I did a lot of hiking, but not official training.  I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.  Jane
