Total Time = 5h 58m 3s
Overall Rank = 453/599
Age Group = W35-39
Age Group Rank = 27/50
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am after a good night's sleep (that was a surprise)! I had my gear all packed the night before, so I took some time and had some green tea and a bagel with honey for breakfast.
Event warmup:

No "proper" warm up...it consisted of walking from the parking lot, and up and down trying to find a place to rack my bike.
Swim
  • 38m 25s
  • 2000 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a great swim! It was a real surprise to me that I swam the time that I did. I was expecting 45 minutes! I have worked really hard at my swimming over the course of training and it has paid off!

It took me until the first buoy to settle into a rythm. I started at the back and to the left so that I didn't get caught up in a pack. Good move on my part as I swam most of it without anyone near me.

What would you do differently?:

Get down to the beach earlier. I ended up standing around at the wrong beach (was the exit of the swim), and then heard the start of the wave before me go. Ran over to the start area and had enough time to hug hubby and get my goggles in place. It was good because I didn't have enough time to freak out about the swim :)
Transition 1
  • 03m 46s
Comments:

I took my time here. Had a gel and some water. A buddy was teasing that I was taking too long putting on my makeup :)
What would you do differently?:

go a little faster getting out of the wetsuit
Bike
  • 3h 08m 1s
  • 80 kms
  • 25.53 km/hr
Comments:

The weather was great, and not too much wind. The volunteers, marshalls, and spectators were amazing. I had two bottles of Cytomax on the bike and was glad to pick up a bottle of water. There is only so much Cytomax one can take :)
What would you do differently?:

Have a bottle of water on the bike from the start of the ride. More hill work in training would e good.
Transition 2
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

A little faster than T1, but I took my time here too. Felt a little disoriented at first and had a hard time finding my spot on the rack.
Run
  • 2h 04m 49s
  • 20 kms
  • 06m 14s  min/km
Comments:

Wow! I ran more of the course than I thought that I would be able to. I walked through each water station and had lots of water. The first part of the run was challenging just finding a comfortable pace. Hubby ran parts of the course with me, and that was awesome! I felt like a superstar when another friend surprised me and ran along with me taking pictures! The last Km was brutal! But I finished with a smile on my face!
What would you do differently?:

More longer bricks in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer!

Event comments:

This was a fantastic day! I thought that I would finish aroun 7hrs. I beat that!@!!!!! The goal was to complete it, upright, with a smile on my face. I did that!!!! It was so great having my folks there at the finish. I made hubby proud. I made myself proud. I have found my passion!

Course: The course was shortened from previous years. It only made it a good hilly challenge for the day. I love the course, which is saying something because I am not a fan of hills. It's technical with some fast downhills. I had a fun ride watching all the fasties go by!

Awesome job!! You totally killed your goal time, way to go! Great RR too, short, to the point, and you still managed to get the "emotion" across! I can't wait to do my HIM now!!

Way to go!  Sounds like you killed all your expectations.  It was crappy that they shortened the bike however in the process they made it A LOT hillier!  If you liked that race you should come down in August and race the sri.  Same kind of course just the oly distance.

Congrats on absolutely massacring your goal time!!!
That is kinda bunk about the shortening of the bike course, but sounds like you took the course to town!
Now, I just wish I had the guts to sign up for a half iron :P
