When- July 7th
Time- tbd
What- Open water swim, then a 2-hr ride at SCT

I know this is WAY in advance, but a few of us want to do an OWS at Mary Alice at Lake Lanier*  before the Chattanooga race.  Then we'll head over the the Silver Comet for a 2hr ride.  Join in if you can!  More details to follow!

* depending on who attends, we could do the swim at Lake Allatoona since it's closer to the SCT.

If you swim at Dallas Landing you can just go straight out Mars Hill Rd to the Hiram trailhead and ride to Rockmart and back (42 miles). This is a nice ride, no cross streets that you have to stop for and a really cool tunnel about 6 miles from Rockmart.

Ok, RocketMan's idea makes much more sense...so here's the plan:

Saturday, July 7
Time- tbd, but early AM
- Open water swim at Dallas Landing in Acworth
- Drive over to the SCT- Hiram trailhead, for a long ride to Rockmart

An OWS and Bike on 7/7/07??  Courtney, you're so smart to think of this.  Who won't have a good swim/bike on that day!?!  Fabulous idea!  (I'm in)

Like my Summery colors?

I'd like to come too. (thanks for starting this thread, Courtney) But Dallas Landing is really far for me so I'm not sure. I'll have to see as it gets closer. Is there an IHOP between Dallas Landing and the SCT?

Not sure about the IHOP, I'm sure there will be something!  Don't think of Dallas Landing being far, think of it as closer to the SCT!

Did you forget where I live? It is far! I'll have to see what we've got going on that weekend but I'd definitely like to join you guys. Maybe I can stay at my mom's in Roswell Friday night so I'll be closer.

Here's a website that has a link for directions: http://www.acworth.org/departments/pnrecreation/parks/dallasLanding.php

Last I heard they were doing construction on I-75 right at the Acworth exit, no idea if they'll suspend work since it's sort of a holiday weekend.

I'm interested in joining =) but do I need to a wetsuit to do the OWS? Also, if this is for a fast group just let me know because I don't want to hold up anyone! =)

No, you don't need a wetsuit.  In fact you'd probably overheat if you wore one so best to leave it at home.  As far as speed is concerned, everyone goes at their own pace.  We hang out on the edge or in the water until everyone is done.  We're a rather laid back group of people if you haven't noticed.

Cool! Glad to hear about the no-go on the wetsuit since I don't have one! I definitely had picked up you guys are laid-back. I think maybe it's habit for me to ask after being around too many hammerheads when I used to cycle a lot!

Is there a set distance or is it whatever we individually feel like doing?

We'll be doing loops.  I think ADollar judged the distance to be appx 600 yrds or so. Do as much or as little as you'd like.  There are buoys to follow on the outer edge of the loop.  They're there to mark that section as a no wake zone for boats.  It's relatively safe as far as OWS goes.

See you there

I think there was talk of 42 miles (Going from SCT Hiram Trailhead to Rockmart). If you want to go shorter I can ride with you back! I may need to cut the ride for myself shorter than 42 just because of other plans...

I'm definitely in for the swim, and a good possibility for the bike (although probably not 42 miles - I've been instructed to start back with smaller distances - oh the humanity!!!).  So if someone is wanting to ride less, I will be happy to keep it around 20-25 miles.

Sweet! Sounds like we have a small group of Meredith, Jamie, and myself for a 20-25 mile ride after the swim. Meredith! I'm so excited about meeting you in person finally!
