Pre-race routine:

I woke up at my normal time for work. 4:00am. I had everything ready to go I just had to put it in my car. I got to the park at around 5:45. Check in started at 6 so I sat in my car for a little bit and listened to music. I ate some Simbree for breakfast. After I received my packet and stuff I set up my transition area. Soon some of my tri teammates arrived and I talked to them while waiting for the race to get started.
Event warmup:

I thought about warming up but my wave was starting 15 minutes after the first wave and I was worried that I would get too cold standing around wet. I don't ever really warm up anyway.
Swim
  • 05m 25s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

There weren't many women in my wave. Probably around 30. I ended up starting behind some girls that were much slower than me. I was kicked and slapped a couple of times. I had to slow down to find an opening to get around them. After I rounded the first buoy I started to get into my groove. I drafted off the lead girl until we rounded the second buoy. Then she started to go a little off course so I ended up passing her. I was first out of the water in my wave. She ended up passing me into transition because my hair got caught up in my wetsuit. I need to remember next time to unzip my wetsuit before I take my cap off. I am pretty sure the swim course was short.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the front. Unzip my wetsuit before I take my cap off.
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

My T1 time is always slow. My wetsuit came off easily. Most of the time was spent on washing off my feet. Maybe I don't really need clean feet for future races.
What would you do differently?:

Be more efficient.
Bike
  • 52m
  • 14 miles
  • 16.15 mile/hr
Comments:

I am fairly pleased with my bike performance. I was leap frogging with a couple of women at the beginning of the course but I picked up my paced and passed them on the second loop. I think that I could have pushed myself even more. I guess I like to slip into old bad habits.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

This was my first race with clipless so my time is slower than I am used to.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my transitions more.
Run
  • 32m 29s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I allowed myself to walk too much this race. I could have done a lot better.
What would you do differently?:

Not be such a wimp and suck it up!
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I could have done much better on the run. I need to work on my endurance.

Event comments:

This was a fun race. I have done other races on the same course and really like the course. I ended up winning a prize in the drawing. Some Nuun and a water bottle. I will do this race again in the future.

Hey Harmony, sounds like a fun race!  You're run pace with walking is about the same as my regular run pace!  Smile  Congrats on a good race!

You are right, that was a fun race. I would love to have your swim time!!! Great race report...I think I learn as much from them as I have from the actual forum at times.

Yo Harmony, nice job on the race. Your swim tactics were especially slick, but you should definitely institute a no-walking policy on the run.
