Pre-race routine:

I drove to Austin with a group of gals on Friday afternoon and had some time to hang out before the race on Sunday morning. We spent LOTS of time at the outlet malls which I was really looking forward to and Saturday night I went over to a friend's house to visit. I used to live in Austin and ended up spending more time chatting than I had planned. Got about five hours of sleep. Woke up, ate a banana and PB and an Advantage bar. Chatted with the friends and got in the car to head to the race.
Event warmup:

This was by far the biggest tri I had ever done. There were close to 3,000 women doing the race and just getting everyone parked and over to the race start was quite a job. Everything was very well organized and we shuttled to the race start pretty quick. Unfortunately by the time I got my bike racked and my transition area set up, it was time for the transition area to close and I had to take off my running shoes and put on my flip flops.
Swim
  • 22m 7s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall I felt good about my swim. I have NOT been working on my swimming much at all and rarely get in the pool. I just feel like I have lots of room for improvement in my bike time and run time and haven't been motivated to work on my swimming.
What would you do differently?:

Train for the swimming part of a tri
Transition 1
  • 04m 14s
Comments:

I like to wear a camel back when riding and I had a hard time getting it on. I also didn't have a towel, except for the one under all my stuff, to wipe my feet off with after the hike from the lake to the transition area and my feet were VERY dirty with pebbles and such. It took me awhile to get them cleaned off. Then my bike fell over and it was all rather messy.
What would you do differently?:

Have a small extra towel to wipe my feet on. I have not practiced transitions and I obviously need to. This is one area where I could have cut some serious time from my overall time.
Bike
  • 39m 31s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

I only got passed by one person the entire ride and that was at the very end. I was really pleased with my bike speed. My overall rank was 139 out of 2612! Yippee!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Also need to speed up in T2. It takes me too long to get my shoes laced up, maybe I need to try those YANKS
What would you do differently?:

Speed up
Run
  • 31m 42s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Need to practice more on hills
Post race
Warm down:

Found one of the other women I was with and watched my friends finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More swim practice and need more practice running on hills.

Event comments:

I was very impressed with how organized the event was for that size. There was lots of enthusiasm from the crowd and overall a fun event. I definitely want to do it next year.
