What is the run course like? Is it trail-like or is it sand running like Mad Beach Tri?

Map of the course is here: http://www.onemillionrevolutions.org/maps/map.php?ID=516

Nope, mostly pavement.  There may be a bit of trail, but I don't remember for sure.  It's definitely mostly pavement though.  And flat!

Edit!  Yikes...did I forget what it was like or is it different???  Sheesh, it looks like mostly  sand trail.  But it doesn't look like deep sand.

Hey all...

We're a little more than two weeks away from this one.  We have a fair amount of BTers doing it, so I was wondering if everyone would like to get together for a pre-race dinner?

A couple of people have expressed interest in one, so I thought I'd see who else would want to come.  As for the "when", Saturday night around 5 or 530 is probably best, but we can figure out the "where" later on.

Anyone else wanna do this?

I"m up for dinner.  Let's make it Central... we've got Brandon, Temple Terrace (assuming Adam's still in), Clearwater, Palm Harbor, who else?   So not everyone has to drive far.  I"m off that day so Saturday is wide open for me.

Yay! I'm so excited we get to do a race together before HOT.  But on the "flat" thing...well the run is flat...but the bike...well, I'll just say that it ain't so flat.  Wait til you see the bridges we'll be riding.  Not quite the skyway, but...well, you'll see.

So we'll see you at the dinner then!  Something different than PF Chang's this time eh? LOL

Know this is late notice but me and my friend Matt are heading over there tomorrow morning, meeting at Sand Key Park at 7:30 and going to ride the race course, hopefully twice, to get use to the bridges if anyone else wants to join. Not so much the climbing but you can get some pretty good speed coming down and need to see (at least I do) how quick any of the turns might be at the bottom. They reversed the bike course from last year it looks like but still the same 3 bridges. If anyone shows up i will be in a red jeep wrangler and he will have a silver xterra.

Oh gosh...I'm a bit bummed about those bridges...a year of racing and almost NO hills whatsoever...now three races with all sorts of hills...ugh...at least I've gotten good practice

We are staying in Clearwater that night, which is pretty central, so any place is fine...we wont have family in tow this time, which will make it a bit easier to be interactive...LOL...

Jeff, we are definitely doing HOT again, I just haven't gotten my motivation up for signing up again...my time improved so much on St. Anthony's because my bike was a lot better...so I don't want to go back down (aka, the hills) on HOT...

PS-Matt and I have decided to do Ironman FL, in Nov. 2008...just to damn do one!!

What is the swim course like? I could get the link up top to work.

I've never been to Clearwater, but I heard it's beautiful. Also heard the race went really well last year, so I'm expecting big things!

The swim is along shore...linear...and very easy.  It's a beach start, you just go out, turn go along shore, turn, run out.  It will be a fun race.  Last year went really well, especially for a first year event.  I'm very much looking forward to this race this year.

Still need to figure out a place to eat.  Someplace in CLW should be fine.  Betsy, that's your area...any suggestions???

Hello BTers!

I'm doing the race and also helping out at registration from 11-3 on sat. Introduce yourself to me (or say hi). I'll be wearing a USAT shirt at the packet pickup.

Good luck everyone! I'm planning on being on the beach tomorrow morning around 7am to ride the course before a long run. There are LOTS of triathletes training at SKB on sundays so you should be in good company if you go there.

Let me know if you need anything or have any questions!

T minus 6 days!  OK, I need to know what kind of food everyone likes.  I am gonna figure out a place to eat (probably somewhere near the race venue) but I need to know what kind of food to search for.  There are probably a million places we can go that are between the Courtney Campbell Causeway and Clearwater Beach.  We'll probably want to stay away from eating IN CLWB because of parking, but I'll get us something convenient that's not too far away.

Please let me know what kind of food you prefer.  Pasta?  Something with more meat?  I prefer a mix of pasta and chicken for the night before a tri...some carbs, some protein...usually an Italian place is good.  I'll take all suggestions though.  Thanks all!

There is Angellino's on 19, but it's up in Palm Harbor, north of Tampa Road.  From Clearwater Beach it's about 25 minutes.

Carrabba's tends to be expensive and I don't know where there's one close enough.  What about something at the Clearwater Mall?  Or the Countryside Mall?  I think we're gonna be limited to a few things that are on North 19 a bit.  I'm really lost here.  I'm gonna have to consult the Team Terri knowledge base.

OK...here's a rundown.

Carrabba's, south of 60 on 19.
Smoky Bones at the Clearwater Mall (60/19 intersection)
Bennigan's, Joe's Crab Shack, Hooters, Roadhouse Grill (same area, just not in the mall)
Macaroni Grill, on 19, between 60 and Countryside Mall

Will any of these places be acceptable to you folks?  I'm gonna go ahead and make the time 6pm on Saturday night at whatever place we decide.  I'm gonna PM everyone as the week gets older so we can figure out what's going on.  But for now, reply here and let me know if you are ok with any/all of these places.  Thanks!

Edit:
Here's who I have for dinner so far
Q
BigO+1
tbctbc+1
Lucy+3
betsy
22legs (?)
BunnyRunner
Klondike
empyre180 (?)

Possibly 14 total.  Anyone I'm forgetting?

I won't be able to make it to dinner but I hope to meet everyone at registration. I'll be working from 11-3 so say hello when you pick up your packet.

As far as restaurants, not sure if you want to go to Clearwater beach but my Boyfriend and I went to Bob Heilman's Restaurant for my birthday. Kinda low key but they had great pizza and bread. There is an open area and indoor seating so you may need reservations. It is right behind the beachcomber (north of Pier 60). Here are the directions.

447 Mandalay Ave
Clearwater Beach, FL 33767

If you head into Bellair/Largo (which is on the race course after we go over both bridges on our way back to Sand Key before our last little bridge) there are a lot of restaurants around that area.

Hope that helps.

I won't be able to make the dinner either. I go to bed around 7 as I get up for work at 3, and I have to work that Saturday.

However, I do hope to see you all at the race/packet pickup.

Folks, I have to relinquish the job of dinner organizer.  I've had some financial distress this week (fighting with bank) and I won't be able to afford any type of social events.  So if y'all wanna figure something out, that's fine, but I won't be able to make the dinner now.  If someone wants to pick up the job of organizing it, that's fine.  The list is above.  I will see you all on race day though.  Sorry about this.

I am going to be at the expo as soon as they open so I can do what I gotta do and get back here to take C to the movies.  So Tom and I will probably just eat around Brandon then.

List is up.  Last year there were, like, 4 athenas.  This year, there's like 20 in the 40 and ups and names I know are tall, thin, and FAST. oh well!  Guess this race is getting popular, to be expected when the St A's director puts on a great race.   I'm also in the next to last wave, and the last wave is the under 25M!!!  WTF????  Oh my gosh I am going to be so clobbered.....

I had no idea it was this big. I would have thought the the under 30 male group would be up front. Shows what I know...

The route looks beautiful though. I'm really looking forward to this one.
