Anyone else a first-timer? I'm doing it with three friends. I'm confident I'll finish, but I'm just worried that I'll make a fool of myself. I'm about twenty pound overweight (by Tri standards) and I suck at swimming (about 26 minutes for a half mile).

Anyone out there?

G

GO FOR IT! We were all first-timers.... I did my first tri back 2002 it was a sprint 400yard swim did it in 12 mintues.. I was slow.. Set your your goal to finish.. next time try to beat the time you set, remember have fun. Have you tried the Lake Terramuggus race yet. Its a great training race with a 400 yard swim just half of the swim Griskus is and the best part its only $15.

Good Luck

This race was my first two years ago - great for first-timers, as they email a handy little guide. The bike is not easy but no monster hills either.

Its a wicked nice course (the sprint  bike is much nicer that is fewer hills than the int'l) plus they cater to newbies  . . . lots of fun

G,
You can swim a half mile! And you're only 20 lbs overweight. You'll be great. I did my first sprint last summer - 40 lbs overweight and struggled with 400 yard swim. Loved it, family was proud of me and I'm working hard this summer for better times. Just love it and think about how with each workout you are getting better!
