I'm resisting the urge sign-up for IM Florida '05. It's tough, but...other goals need to be completed.

I'm curious as to the size of the bike/run bricks you future IRONMEN will be doing. What will they peak at? My knowledge on this is zilch, but I'd hazzard a guess that some of you might do an 80 bike/ 15 run combo?

My plan is measured in time, not distance.

Longest Ride is 6 hours ~114-120 miles

Longest Run is 3 hours ~20-23 miles

Longest Brick is 3:00/1:30 ~57-60 miles/10-11.5 miles

I honestly have no idea about the peak weeks but Phil's stuff looks about right. I'm using Carmichael Training and my coach only gives me a month at a time. On the one hand, I'd like to see the whole plan but this also keeps me in the now plus we adjust as needed.

So far the plan concentrates on getting at least one long workout in each discipline per week. I do each discipline 3x a week with the weekends having the longest run/bike. The distances/times change every week but here is this week just to give you a clue how CTS does their training. It's usually a 3 week build then a light week and then build another 3 weeks, always with drills in each discipline. None on the bike this particular week but sometimes I work on high cadence, sometimes pushing a big gear, etc...

Monday: rest day
Tuesday: 1hr swim with drills, 50min run with fartlek drills
Wednesday: 1hr swim with drills, 1hr bike
Thursday: brick workout 1hr 15min bike/30 min run
Friday: 1hr swim with drills
Saturday: 40 min tempo run, 4hr 30min endurance bike
Sunday: 2hr endurance run, 1hr recovery bike

I'm not sure. I get my workouts 1 week at a time. Although my coach is not a big fan of over-training the distance. I am getting in good base miles and starting my bricks now. Last Sat.'s brick was 40/3 miles. I imagine like Phil it won't get more than 60-70/10-12.

The longest brick I've done for either of my IM's has been 6 hour bike / 1 hour run. I did one of those for each IM. This year I also did a few "big days" where I would swim-bike-run, or run-bike-swim, but have breaks between the segments to eat and stretch. These would be 8-10 hour days with 6-9 hours of training.

Most of my bricks are nothing more then 1-2 miles of easy running at the end of a long bike ride.

These workouts reflect the beliefs of the coaches I've worked with. Some coaches feel long bricks are essential, and others employ multiple bricks (bike/run/bike/run/bike/run).

I plan on running 10-15 min at the end of every long bike ride.
