Sunny
Total Time = 1h 41m 26s
Overall Rank = 19/85
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 4:50, oatmeal, banana, glass of OJ and supplements. Out the door at 5:45. Early so i didn't have to worry about parking. Got chip/marked, rode bike about a mile, set up TA, layed in shade until 15 min before race time focusing. Jumped in and did about 100yd swim and then sat tight.
Event warmup:

bike, swim
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

First mass start. It was crazy but way fun to battle out swimming over people, gettin kicked and hit. What a rush!
What would you do differently?:

Not too much, just experienced this one
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Well I bike w/ my run shoes, so this transition is slow while the next one is fast.
What would you do differently?:

Should have gone w/o a shirt
Bike
  • 1h 03m 18s
  • 18 miles
  • 17.06 mile/hr
Comments:

The speed bumps sucked, and there were about 4 places where the road just reeked of something dead just off the pavement. I just need to do more hill work and get some shoes and spend some time in the saddle if I want to get faster.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Smooth sailing, just had to rack bike and take of helmet and stuff...makes me wonder why it was so long...
Run
  • 25m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

This really hurt, I wanted to stop. I knew i had to keep my legs moving, but I got the same damn sideache as last time, just not as bad. I think i need to do more bricks that are TOUGH on me so that my body gets used to the bike to run transition faster. Once I get a sideache, my core muscles tighten up and my run gait gets real tight. I finally hit my stride with a little more than a mile left and picked up the pace to a little under 8 min/mile.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks in training, some higher intensity training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around w/ Matt(3rd overall), went down to lake and cooled off, went to buffet (hamburger and a beer!), waited around for awards...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of Bricks

Event comments:

Very fun race, bike was more than I expected and although I didn't perform as well as I'd have liked to, I can't be too disappointed w/ the numbers. :) I'll probably do it again next year, but the price WAS pretty steep at $85 a head w/ USAT insurance or whatever it was. Only downer was the tragedy that I heard about after the race...
