What is the best put on and organized race you have seen/participated in (Triathlon. Marathon Rode Race)?  Overall prizes, food, events, expos, goodies, atmosphere,  etc....

Suzuki Rock-n-Roll Marathon in San Diego.

The expo, course, crowd support and most of all weather are second to none!

Ralph's Half IM. It is an IMNA race and they put on a good show. I don't know about the swag (the same as most races), but as far as the race goes, they have it down to a science.
The swag at the San Diego Triathlon Challenge is pretty good:
Watch
Duffle bag
Running shoes
T-shirt
gels
bars
shorts
hat
and other stuff
The registration is $500.
I paid $545 for IMAZ and won't get nearly as much swag

Really, Thomas, I'd be hard-pressed to name one that was better organized and run than the Austin Marathon. Great course, great expo, great city. Mardi Gras marathon would be a close second.

R'n'R was OK, but not the best venue for a marathon (Do you really want to see some hills?).

Honolulu was nice but too hot for a marathon.

Crescent City Classic in New Orleans is well-run, great party afterwards, but has it's problems, mostly too hot and crowded.

Our local tris are mostly put on by the same local guys, and they do a great job. We have one guy who starts the gumbo, goes out and wins the race, then comes back and serves the food.

Running shoes? That's pretty cool. Do you get a say-so as to what model and size?

For $500, though, they should give you a tri bike.

My personal favorite was the Peachtree City Triathlon. Well organized race with a nice course. Local support was wonderful. And the post race and goodie bag was better than the others I've seen. However from the other thread it sounds like I need to sign up for an event in New Orleans.

No, you don't get to choose. Its a fund raiser for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The shoes are donated by Nike (I think).
If you raise $12,000 they give you a Litespeed Blade.
I'm going for some Hed3's.

Most definitely! If not Mardi Gras, then Crescent City Classic. Both are great, don't-miss events

Had to be the Lake Placid Ironman USA...the organization absolutely blew me away.  From the wetsuit strippers to the way they handled the transitions, the intermediate transition bags, the carpeting on the street from the swim to the transition area (a good 1/8 of a mile), the control of the crowds and the traffic, the finish in front of all those people on the Olympic speed skating oval, then to the unofficial volunteers...families who live on the course who set up informal aid stations, cheering squads, music.   One time in your life you should aspire to compete in an event like this!

I volunteered for Wildflower last year as a cal poly student and i have to say that it was a great event. I may have been a little hung over from the nights events but i was glad to help out and it was nice to see every one compete. This event is what got me the motivation to start training. It is a huge event but is very well organized. If you have the chance i would check it out.

You can find those strippers in New Orleans, but you'd have to go down to Bourbon Street.
