Age Group Rank = 4/4
Pre-race routine:

We drove to Alabame from Philly the day before, literally 1 hour of sleep on Thursday...spent the afternoon in Birmingham, got to bed at 1am, woke up at 5:30am, left by 6am...ugh...felt absolutely exhausted!
Event warmup:

Running around like crazy to pick up the packets, set up transition, there was an accident on I-20/59, and we were running way late!
Swim
  • 13m 41s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really think this was longer than 600, I dont usually swim this slow...
I was great till the buoy, but after turning, my goggles fogged, and the sun was in my eyes, I couldn't spot at all, just followed the legs in front of me, kept getting off course - but still dont think I was as slow as it shows...
What would you do differently?:

Use goggle defogger in my goggles...
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Good for me - or at least better than the last race...
What would you do differently?:

Do everything faster.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 23s
  • 17 miles
  • 15.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Ummm, this was hard. I've never had hills like this before...when we got out of the park, there was a huge hill, I was going about 7mph at the top of it and breathing really heavy...people were FLYING by me...uhh ohhh...this isn't going to be good...rolling hills the whole way, made a left hand turn a bit after half-way and there was this HUGE hill, crazy crazy, I passed two big guys...I think those are the only people I passed...towards the end, there was another left turn, and the guy said that it was all downhill back to the park...so I'm humming to myself "it's all downhill from here"...and smiling...but then IT WASN'T!! it was more uphill...I wasn't thrilled...ugh, it hurt!
What would you do differently?:

Not race on a course this hilly:)
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Got some quick laces, took my time, but still not bad for me...
What would you do differently?:

Not be so tired coming off the bike:)
Run
  • 34m 10s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I was so tired, I could barely move...I knew that I wouldn't be able to run the whole way...no cramps, but my legs were just DEAD! Ran as much as I could, walked the uphills and the water stations...
What would you do differently?:

Not bike/run in hills:)
Post race
Warm down:

Wait for Chris (Matt's brother) to get off the bike course - he was on a Huffy from Walmart, and was having a pretty tough time of it...then ran/walked the run with him so that he'd actually finish, and he did...

Then went over to the pavilion...Matt got first, so he got a towel?!?! Different, but I guess it is good in that it is more useful than a medal...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HILLS! and I needed more sleep than I got!

Event comments:

This race was very well-organized...the prizes could have been better...but the volunteers were awesome, and everything was very easy to understand...a good race to do if you enjoy hills:)
