The bike segment only is $65 , by comparison Acura Bike Tour (albeit not a bike race) is $35 .

You could always save $20 and ride back to Venice afterwards .

iwantotri - 2007-08-23 9:03 PM Does anyone know the logistics of the BIKE ONLY event?

I just read the whole website and all of the athletes guide. It seems about the same as everyone else. It's a point to point race but T2 and the finsih line seem pretty close. So I would think that you have to do the shuttle thing unless you can hitch a ride. So $65 + $20  for the shuttle makes for a pricey event.

Professionals: 6:45 am
Elite: 6:55 am
Olympic: 7:00 am
Bike only: 7:20 am

Sprint: 8:30 am

So I guess you'd be on the bike course with the Oly racers and at least 1/2 done (me) or finished (fast people) by the time the sprint racers hit the course. All I know is that if I do it, I'll just stay to the right at my slow 12mph average speed!

Now Im starting to get scared! Thats a long hill up Highland from Fairfax to Hollywood! To cruise hollywood blvd with no traffic tho. I think Im gonna have to do it and get over my fear of being slow and DFL.

If you do the bike race/tour, I'll be in the back with you.  I'm not that fast my last ride I averaged 13.3.  It's just going to take time for me.  I hope to see ya there

P.S. If there are a couple people out there who want to do this as a relay, email me. I'm in the best swim & bike shape of my life, and like I said, it's killing me not to be in this race!

Duggar1, I hope you'll consider signing up for the sprint and just walking the run.

I am sure all our fast, seasoned athletes just fainted, threw up, or quit reading!

But I know from experience that you could be a huge help to the BOPers, the bonkers, the first-timers, and anyone else struggling who could use someone to talk to/walk with for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, etc., and a little encouragement to keep going, start running again, whatever.   Volunteers are great, but a supportive racer is even better.  My triathlon heroes are the fast guys/gals who stop their own races to check on, sit with, care for an injured racer, not the guys who win with ease.

It's great karma points if you can keep your ego and your legs in check, b/c you WILL want to run.

This heat sucks.

The new run course is posted on the race homepage.  It still looks boring, but I am happy to report the second turnaround is on Grand and 5th, not Grand and 1st, which should save our legs and our lungs a bit.  See

Was looking on weather.com and checking out the forecast for race day and it looks like its going to be a lot cooler than it is. i checked both venice and l.a. and it made me feel better to think its not going to be like it is now. if its like this on race day i can see myself dying on the run.

Hey all,

We are under a week left and I was wondering if someone who has done the race could recommend some things:

1) What do we use for our T1 race bag?

2) What do we pack in that bag?

3) What do we use for our T2 bag?

4) What do we pack in that bag?

5) How much food/drink do you recommend? What do you eat/drink?

I've done 1 triathlon so far and it was a super sprint (Redondo). So any recommendations are appreciated!

You will need two gym bags for the race . For the T2 Bag : pack running shoes , water bottle , race number if you use a race belt. hat and maybe a gel or two . I would use a bag you know very well as you will need to find it lined up on the ground in T2 . This T2 bag you will hand in at the expo and the race organizers will place for you in T2 on race morning using the race numbers.

T1 Bag you will use to bring everything for pre race , swim and bike . Pretty much everything you will use at the race , wetsuit , goggles , swimcap , bike shoes , etc .... except for what you put into T2 bag. For me this is a 2 hour race so I bring a couple of
gels for the bike and bring a light breakfast before the race. Apple , Banana, dry cereal , water . Use a large bag for T1 as you will need to stuff everything into your bag at T1 before leaving on the bike and your bag will be bused over to the finish line while you are on the bike and run course .

Happy racing , Its a fun course . X fingers the weather cools down .....

IMO having two transition areas is stupid. I don't like it at all.

Poor Goran -- maybe this is not the right race for you to run on a regular basis? I like the point-to-point because I like the ocean swim and the downtown finish, which means going through the city. But going through the city also means a) typical urban roads (construction on Beaudry and metal plates on Wilshire this past weekend); b) two transitions. It is just a different experience and can be a lot of fun if you just go with the flow.

PJO, Competitor update #7 has good advice for transition bags. I volunteered collecting T2 bags at the expo in '05. If you use a belt, be sure you put your race number ON the belt before putting it into your T2 bag; once you give it away, you don't see that bag again till you get off your bike. Keep it simple, and easy to open...don't tie a drawstring too tightly, for example. Do not forget your T2 bag at Expo -- if you don't turn it in, you will need to ride with your running shoes or run barefoot (I've seen that). Also be sure to put your wetsuit and goggles completely in your T1 bag and close it tightly; everything that falls out becomes lost and found. Let me know if you have more Q.

Ah! Taper Week is here . Are you ready to rumble ? Packet pick up is 2 (or 3) days away ..

What are you all doing this week in terms of taper before the race . Decrease hours and intensity ?

Anyone doing short faster pace sessions ?

I am adding rest days and cutting volume . So i feel like i have energy left after my workouts .

Might try and sneak in a quick OWS at Venice beach before the packet pick up . As much to calm nerves as to scout
the sights .

Good luck everyone ...

For beach access Park north of Venice Blvd on side streets . Expect traffic and be prepared to walk 1/2 mile .
After the swim and T1 Then drive north and take the 10 freeway to downtown and park at the convention center (at the 110 freeway junction) parking entrance is off cherry street at Pico : Where Transition 2 and the finish line are .

Good Luck >>>
