I didn't even think about a tri until early July so my goals were pretty simple; finish a sprint.

-did my first sprint tri in August
-did my second tri yesterday, hopefully with a much better time.
-continue training through the winter: yet to be seen.

Goals through the winter and into 2005

-build up running base
-lose 15 pounds
-do a 1/2 marathon in January
-snowboard twice a week
-do an Oly early in the 2005 season
-do a 1/2 IM by the end of the season.
-train train train.

Goals? What goals? My only "goals" (they were just plans, really) for the summer were to do a sprint tri on Memorial Day (done) and train for a fall marathon.

Did the sprint. Then two more sprints. Then had this crazy idea to train with dmit for a half IM. Trained and finished that on 9/12.

I'm in taper time now for the Chicago Marathon on 10/10 (will be my 8th marathon).

Next year, I might actually set some real goals - like do another 1/2 IM and really feel like I'm a lot better trained for it, especially on the bike. We'll see. For now, the bike is safetly put away for several weeks

Just to bring my "real world experience" - no. No I did not meet my goals.

While I DID compete in 2 triathlons plus a couple of open water swims this year - it was way more maintenance than any improvement.

I've had a really sucky year to be honest, and I do feel good that I, at least, did not give up altogether. However, I had much bigger plans. I was unable to make it work out the way I wanted to. It was not due to injury, but to other life events taking up my time. I actually feel pretty lucky to be able to do what I did do, and I'm planning next year, it can't be as bad as this one.

Just talking from the other side of the fence - sometimes things just don't work out, however much you want them to.

Did I meet my goals, well when I decided to do a tri I really just wanted to "not drown in the swim", after that I, as a ex-road racing cyclist figured that I would really dominate the bike leg. What a fool I was. I didn't train nearly enough in the swim and did a terrible ride. Did finish the race however 153 out of 450 or so and 22nd in my age group of 45-49 males. Did 3 more races afterward and got better and better eventually finishing 2nd in my age group and 28th overall out of about 420 in my last race. Definate progress but still a ways to go the guy who beat me took nearly 4 minutes out of me.

Yeah, I felt I met mine as well:

1.  Finish my first triathlon without dying or otherwise embarassing myself.

2.  Finish a 1/2 IM.

3.  Meet new friends.

4.  Stay in better shape than my 22 & 27 year old sons.

5.  Sign up for a full Ironman in 2005 (Lake Placid).

Congratulations to all on this year's achievements whether you met all those goals or not. I did meet my not so lofty goals.

1) Finish an Olympic distance race in less than 3:15
2) Break the 9 minute mile mark in a 5k
3) Average 18 mph in a tri bike leg

Looking forward to making and meeting higher goals next year.

I met my goals and then some.

Completed 3 sprint tris, all on a mtn bike, the third one was on a rented mtn bike. My times improved with every race, and I even placed third in female 40+ clydesdale in the last race. I never expected in my wildest dreams to medal in my first year of racing. I've lost 60 pounds of fat and plan to lose another 15, so that I will be racing under 150lbs for next years events.

I bought a 2004 Cannondale R800 road bike with all the goodies, and have yet to figure out the gearing and finesse of this new baby. That is what winter training is for, right???

My swimming has improved, but will further get better over the winter.

I was happy running a 10 min mile, until I finished just over 26 mins in my last 5K run for the 3rd tri.

Mark me a happy trier for 2004.

Yup. 1) Quit smoking and stay quit.2) Start exercising and make it a habit.3) Complete my first tri without having to be carried off the field. Now, six more months of base-building and strength training, drop about 30 lbs., then start strong into season number 2! And go longer and faster!

I met and exceeded my goals this year and didn't meet a couple of them.

1) Do 3 sprint triathlons - done although it turned out to be 2 sprints and 1 Oly Goal met

2a) Swim 1 mile without stopping Goal Met
2b) finish swim leg of Oly in under 35 min's ( time split 29:52) Goal Met

3) finish Oly under 3:15 - time  2:46.50 Goal Met

4 10K under 50 min's - time 50:45  previous best was 55 min's so still an improvement I know I will beat next year.  I am actually  probably setting the goal of under 48min for next year. Not achieved

5) finish 1/2 marathon - this was cancelled due to ITBS in early spring for may race. Goal for next May is under 1:50

6) 5K under 24 min's - time 21:32 Goal Met

Do a Sprint Triathlon  Did 3 but it took me more time than I had anticipated.  I would have liked to do an Olympic tri and maybe even a 1/2 IM but that will be for next year.

Lose a few pounds I lost a few pounds but only enough so that I can feel it, not enough that most people around me would notice.

Sustain no injuries EUREKA!  I was very successful at this one...I DID NOT INCUR ONE INJURY THIS SEASON!
