Pre-race routine:

About the same, except I wasn't as hungry as usual and skipped the peanut butter sandwich/bagel and just had one clif bar. Picked up Jeff @ 530 and drove out to Bath.
Event warmup:

Some swimming
Swim

  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was some of the warmer water I have raced in. The water current was in our favor, but not terribly strong. No real visability to speak of. The pier at the end was not visable until the very end and I almost ran into a dock at a marina which I thought was going to be near the end, but it wasn't
What would you do differently?:

Could push a little harder next time i think
Transition 1

T1 and T2 times are included in the bike time for the official timing. The time above is an estimate from my stopwatch.
What would you do differently?:

More practice.

Comments:

The bike course was a challenge. I pushed it hard from the beginning. Jeff and I were at T1 at the same time and I was leaving before him and I knew I had to keep him at bay for as long as possible. No big headstart like @ West Kennebunk. I got to the U-turn at mile 10, and was in 20th place! After I turned around, I saw Jeff about 100yds behind in 21st place and coming up fast! I figured I would just continue the push as keep his inevitable lead off the bike to a minimum. Unfortunately, I missed a right turn and kept going straight for awhile. One of the other racers yelled that I missed the turn and when I looked behind, sure enough, nobody anywhere near behind me. I turned around and went back, looked at my timer and by the time I got back to the missed turn it was almost exactly 2 minutes, so I figure I lost 3-4 minutes on this F-up.
What would you do differently?:

Not miss my turns!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Again, this is just an estimate, so I am not overly excited about the time. The only problem I had with T2 was that as I came to dismount, I slipped on the road after I got off the bike and fell into the guy in front of me. He was cool about it though and I picked myself up and carried on.
Run
  • 46m 8s

Comments:

Pushed it about as hard as possible, but the hills kept me from doing anything spectacular.

I guess the course wasn't tough enough for you, so you had some distance on to make it challenging.

Nice job - you have a lot of natural talent and potential that is just starting to come out. Keep up the great work.

You were very strong at that race. Again, thanks for adding the mile to your bike as there was no way I was going to hold you off. Your training is looking great and things are falling into place for a real good Timberman.
