Is anyone else doing this race?  I'm thinking about it, and would love to find a familiar face or screenname!

My FAMILY (And I  - I think) are going to do the Freedom Run in Evergreen.  It's only a 5k and I'm planning on running with MAx.  Chris will RACE it and Alex will be by himself trying to "run" the whole way...  We'll see   It's only a 5k, but you should come up and do it!!!!!  They advertise that it's the biggest 4th of July race in the State!  A little hilly, but MUCH more downhill than up.  The entire first mile is down.  I ran it last year - it's fun

I just registered. Funny how it became a 11k this year. 10:30 am start is going to brutal for heat too. Probably around 80 degrees or so. I plan on slogging through it more as a training/tempo run than a race as my miles have been down due to a few injuries... I'll probably be wearing red/black shorts and a white baseball hat and sunglasses...

The first time we crossed Wildcat Parkway, we were supposed to go straight across and continue on the cinder path. Instead, they directed us right and then left on to Hyacinth. We then backtracked the way we should have been coming from and then ended up in the Stone Mountain neighborhood. Where we jumped on the trail from Hyacinth is where we were supposed to be heading west up towards Shea Stadium. The confusion seems to be from Stone Mountain neighborhood having a 5k walk that they marked. Then whoever was in charge of setting up the first Wildcat Reserve Pkwy screwed up BIG TIME! The stupid thing is this was the same course as last year and this shouldn't have been a problem.

Worse, the leaders ended up running 8 miles. I think they got back on the correct course but only after doing a loop within Stone Mountain. But I think the vast majority of the runners did the short course. And since we were all off the course, that meant no water stations or mile markers.

I'm going to drive parts of the course and then Map My Run but I also heard it was 5.75 miles via Garmin.

SUMMARY: Good workout. Waste of $38. Results will all be for sh*t. They announced me as 3rd place when I finished. Hopefully we see a refund or a credit for future races.

AARGGHHH!!!!!

Update:

I drove the course in Stome Mountain to remember it and then went to Map My Run and came with 6 miles.

Also, the results are on BKB's website and it looks like four guys (the lead pack) all ran about 8 miles. I think they did the loop through Stone Mountain then went back on the regular course. So they gave these guys the first four places overall. Everyone else ran the same short route (give or take) and those times reflect the remaining results.

Looking at the route, I'm not sure how we made it. Whoever was leading pretty much picked a route because there really were not any direction indicators on the course.

Nice race, Shannon. You finished 15 seconds ahead of me and I was behind you pretty much all of the race...

We noticed the same thing. The race was a big mess. But still a good run for training purposes.
