Subject: Shaving or waxing or what?
Hi,

This is one of those questions I could only ask on a relatively anonymous place like this. I am considering shaving/ waxing. I have read all of the threads on the pros' and cons and I think I am going to do it.

Here is my question... I don't want to shave, itchiness and all of that. Sooooo how does on go about removing body hair if they don't shave. I have seen a refernce to waxing once. If it is a wax I am going to need some specifics on what product and procedure to use.

Thanks in advance...

Any advice would be helpful.

If you are going to go with waxing I would probably just go to salon/spa that waxes legs and whatever else you need waxed. The stuff they sell for home use makes a big mess plus there are some hard to reach areas. Probably not worth the time to do it yoursef.

Oh come on, cowboy up and shave. It's not that bad, and I sure as heck think it's less painful than a wax job.

Wax wax wax! It is somewhat painful the first time, but the regrowth is sooo much slower and thinner and there is no itchy stubble. But don't do it yourself. Go to a professional. (I admit that I'm a little biased since I'm a wax client myself. If you happen to live in Minnesota, I can recommend a great place.)

Suck it up, buttercup and shave. Hurts a hell of a lot less than waxing (I would imagine). The itchiness isn't too bad once you get used to the smoothness. The only downside being that the first time requires a 60+ minute time committment (at least it did for me).

We look forward to the day when you post, “I finally gave in and shave, didn’t know where to stop because I didn’t consult BT first, and am now hairless.  When does it start itching?”

My wife had a waxing done once(our wedding), and said she'll never do it again. According to her, the daily shaving is a lot better than the pain that came w/ waxing.

There should be a sticky thread at the top of the forum dedicated to shaving. I haven't been around long, but I know I've seen at least 6 or 7 different threads on this topic.

X2. This tends to show up on a monthly basis, if not slightly more often.

It may eclipse the TAN thread for most posts...someday.

I've actually shaved my legs several times for swimming as a youngster. I don't now because frankly I haven't combed my hair in over 15 years and I don't see myself taking on any additional grooming. I guess it's funny to me how people are so into it.

Here is a funny shaving story. My freshmen year in high school the whole swim team was shaving their legs (I know, I am adding to the creepiness) for league/state meet and this senior who was sort of a bully dared me to shave my eyebrows. I said I would if he would. My eyebrows are very, very light. His were very, very dark. Long story short, you couldn't tell I'd done anything while he looked like a total psycho. He walked around in sunglasses and bandaids on his eyebrows for weeks.

To make matters worse, a couple of days later I crashed my bike and had to get stitches along my eyebrow. I had totally forgotten that I shaved my eyebrows until the doctor asked "um, you mind telling me why you have shaved eyebrows". He told me it was a good thing that my head split along the eyebrow and not across because they wouldn't have had the eyebrow as a reference when lining up the cut for stitching.

I am surprised how often this gets brought up here. People have applied so many connotations to the idea of having or not having hair. The bottom line is that you should remove hair wherever you don't want it.

Now, to the question wax vs. shaving........

Last year I decided to do the wax thing. More than anything, I wanted to get my wife of ten years interested in it. I must admit it was weird not having hair on my legs at first but then I got used to it. I read someone refer to the hair on legs as wooly long underwear. As I let the hair grow back, it definitely seemed weirder to me with hair than being without it. Since that time, I have continued the practice and must admit doing the chest thing too. The bottom line is that I like the way I look for the first time in my life. I am not afraid to show it off a little. I'm sure that no one around could care less one way or the other (except for maybe my wife who loves it incidentally).

Now to the pain element. Duh...... It doesn't feel good. However, it doesn't feel any worse than riding the bike into a headwind for 30 miles only to turn around to find out that the wind has changed to be a headwind on the return ride. To me, the pain lasts for about 15 minutes vs. the pain in the neck every 3rd morning or so when you need to go back and shave again.

Warning....... No matter what your choice is, wax or shave, brace yourself. It feels and in my opinion looks weird at first. However, it is just hair. It will grow back if you hate it. It isn't like a tattoo of the name of a girl you used to date. Good luck

Take the plunge, Norelco trimmer from CVS/Walmart et al around $20 makes life easy. No rash or itching. Couldn't be simpler.
