Subject: w/ or w/o the jogging stroller, that is the question
most of you know that i do the bulk of my training with my two girls in tow (literally in the case of the burley, figuratively in the case of the jogging stroller). i do run solo at least once a week, but usually just my shorter runs. yesterday i did a 7+ mile trail run solo w/ around 9 min miles. woo hoo! today i did the 5.6 mile route i have always done with the girls, but also did it SOLO! do da do! so, for those who care at all, it took me 59 minutes to do it by myself (10.5 min miles). the fastest i've done it pushing the girls was 1:06 (11.46 min miles). my average pushing them is closer to 10:10 (12+ min miles). so, i cut 7 minutes off my best time, which confirms my suspicion that the resistance adds about 1-2 minutes per mile. it was slow going tonight, really, since it was pretty windy tonight, but i still kept up a good pace.

I soooo want to get a jogging stroller et al...which one do you use? I was looking at one this weekend that's convertabel...one minute it's a stroller, the next it's a trailer for your bike.

I have one that I got at REI a few years back. The only thing I don't like about running with the jogger is that my shoulder gets achey after a bit, plus not moving both arms kinda stinks, but it's better than working on my couch impression.

In my last 5K I was running near a woman pushing a stroller. I've never been sure how much they slow you up but I thought this was funny...on the last mile I would pass her going up hills and she would pass me on the downhills.

I run with the stroller and also without - I much prefer without!
Ahhhh the freedom of running without having to push 20kg in front of you.
With the stroller is definitely harder and does help a lot to increase my fitness.
I am focussed on getting the training done and so when I have to - I just take my son with me (he's 2yrs old so can get a bit annoyed at sitting in the stroller for more than 30 mins).
I just do what I can with what I've got!

I was running a 10k the other year and this woman goes flying past me pushing two kids in a stroller. Needless to say we were going uphill.

we have a tike tech double trouble. i also have a single baby jogger that doesn't get much use now. we went to rei and babies 'r' us and tested out a bunch of models and nothing seemed right. so, we ordered the double trouble from www.joggingstroller.com. we've been pretty happy with it, for the price ($300). it isn't as heavy duty as some strollers, but i've used mine almost daily, for runs and walks, for nearly a year without any major issue. it probably won't last to hand down, but if it dies on us, we'd consider getting the same one again. we have a burley trailer with a conversion kit to be a jogger, and i would agree that a regular jogging stroller works a bit better for runs.

my problem is my left thumb. i tend to push the thing with just my left hand enough of the time that my left thumb joint ends up aching. i've been trying to rotate which hand i am using, use both hands or no hands more often (with the tether, of course).

i have two - ages 3 1/2 and one (tomorrow!). its about 100 lbs between the two girls (45 lbs and 21 lbs), the stroller, water bottles, diaper bag (although, i've been leaving that at home lately since i'm usually back home in about an hour). i also like running alone, but its nice that they go along too. my youngest sleeps and my oldest watches for birds, ducks, squirrels, etc.

Geez Autumn, if I keep reading about the the training benefits of pushing little ones I may have to have more kids just so I can try it out.

Well ok not really.  But still, you are such an inspiration

My 9 year old sometimes rides her bike with me while i run, or one of my 12 year olds (I have twins )  will rollerblade along with me.  I enjoy it so much more when they come with me!

well, by next summer ella may be riding next to me while i push fi in the single jogger. i enjoy having them along too. i love the fact that ella talks about running, biking, swimming, racing, hiking, backpacking, camping, gardening, like they are normal, every day activities. i hope it helps her life be happier and healthier.
