Age Group = M 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/14
Pre-race routine:

Up before 5am. Bagel/peanut butter, banana and energy drink. 1st racer to arrive. Coach thinks I'm too much of a keener. Picked up race kit. Dropped off rungear-bag at T2 and rode 1k to beach/T1 with swim/bike gear.
Event warmup:

Got my suit on early and had a good swim w/up. Swam out for 5-10 mins. Swam back doing drills.
Swim
  • 23m 45s
  • 1200 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Good pace and breathing but not a great swim because of poor navigation with foggy goggles.
Transition 1
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

Took extra time to pack all my gear into my bag before leaving because the volunteers were going to move it to T2 after we biked out.
Bike

  • 24.00 km/hr
Transition 2

Comments:

guess'timate time
What would you do differently?:

Pretty fast
Run
  • 35m 20s
  • 7 kms
  • 05m 03s  min/km
Comments:

Hardest run and pushed harder than any past ran. Desperate to come in under 2hrs because of the fast field.
What would you do differently?:

nothing except to look for a race with more slow runner or wait until I age up.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking and talking and eating. Really good food (fresh mini muffins, froze fruit, yogurt) Stayed for the awards for a change because I wanted to ride after and because they had lots great door prizes (won nothing)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

All 3 segments were faster than my training times and I think I went as fast as I could possibly go. Still came in last. Go news is that this time would give me 12/18 next year.

Overall: 125/175
Performance: Average
Excellent start off the beach. Waded in and then dolphin dives out to swimable water. No violence and good pace/breathing control to 1st buoy. Googles fogged badly and had trouble navigating. I stopped to clear them but it came right back. I did a left turn at the 1st buoy and realized after ~10m. Got back on course and followed other swimmers. Couldn't find anyone to draft. On the return leg I lined up on the crowd on the beach and when I stood up I found that I had missed the swim exit by 10m. Ran through the knee deep water to the exit.
Suit: RB as usual
Course: Triangle off the beach. Each side of the triangle had 2 buots but you could only see the 1st one from the beach. Nice coral setup on beach and swimmer when off in waves of 30 at 1 min intervals.

Jump off bike in one lane, put on shoes in the other lane and run straight up a hill. Legs really struggled to get going but pushed hard.
