Swim
  • 18m 59s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt better about the swim then time reflects. Kept my head down and NEVER stopped swimming to sight. Felt good about the line I took.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Transition went well until I realized that I forgot to gear down my bike and there was a hill coming out of T1. I almost couldn't get going with only one shoe clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

gear down...learn to jump on the bike
Bike
  • 52m 29s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Borrowed PPaulin's aero helmet. I knew these things made a difference, but I had never used one on a course I was familiar with. On the big downhill on the backside of the course, the helmet improved my top speed by almost 2 MPH!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

OK, so I come blazing into the bike rack and kind of forgot that the Transition are is NOT flat. I was moving downhill, flung my bike onto the rack and the whole rack fell over...luckily there was only one other bike on the rack(a vintage 80's 10 speed). I froze for about 2 seconds trying to figure out if I was going to pick up the bikes or just take off. About that time I saw a yellow volunteer shirt appear out of the corner of my eye. I yelled THANKS and took off!
WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID, MY T2 TIME WAS EIGTH OVERALL!!
What would you do differently?:

be a little more controlled while racking the bike.
Run
  • 38m 15s
  • 4.5 miles
  • 08m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought I was doing well on the run. My strategy was to just get through the first mile without pushing too hard due to the hills. I ran a sub 8 2nd mile but I just couldn't hold onto the pace knowing that I had to climb those last two hills going to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

push harder on the pace!

NICE job Bramblinator.  You are good at all three legs!  Freak!

You really think the helmet helped that much?

Way to take out the bike rack! You were blazing fast in that transition, too... I tried to take your picture but you were too fast for me!

So how did you sight on the swim? Following somebody? I don't remember SMP lake being very clear... but that's great that you were able to do that.

Nice race overall - good to see you out there!

Thaks for the comments!

Funny thing about the swim.  I figured out, a few years ago, that way off in the distance, looking across the lake from the swim start there is a white house in the woods, on the hill.  I barely look at the bouys until I get past the boat dock.  I just focus on the house!!
