Trisport Canada & Subaru Triathlon Series
27C / 81F
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 22m 4s
Overall Rank = 166/448
Age Group =
Age Group Rank = 5/33
Pre-race routine:

Just took it all in...this race is a big one as there was a half IM that is a qualifier for IM Canada going on too. Noticed that my bike was the crappiest ones on my AG rack (and there were 32 others!!) :(

Hoped to beat my time last year of 1:22:26, but I did also note that they changed the run course completely (and not in a good way unfortunately)
Event warmup:

Nothing too exciting...biked a bit, ran a bit and discovered cranky knees

I saved one woman's race...she forgot her goggles and I loaned her my spare pair
Swim
  • 15m 16s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

I swam like poo. My time was still OK, but I can swim better than that. I don't know what happened, really. I was in the 4th wave out of 5, so there were a million people in front of me first of all. My AG had 33 people in it too. And I had my old crapola too big wetsuit on because I didn't want to risk blowing the warranty on the new one by wearing it again with the hole.
I just didn't deal well with the run in start and the total thrashing going on. I got out of breath too quickly and then was tired to the first buoy. And I was Weed Woman...they were BAD!
After rounding the second and heading back, I felt better. People were FINALLY spacing out some and I could swim faster.
My time last year for this swim was 15:44 so somehow I managed to be faster despite it feeling WAY worse!
What would you do differently?:

1)Not have my stoooopid new wetsuit blow a hole in the seam a month after I buy it and 3 days before a race
2)Practice run in starts
3)More swimming in Lake Ontario and the waves/chop

Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Last year's T1 was 2:01 so that was better

Body glide did not solve the suit getting stuck on the ankles issue. Maybe it's because the suit is too long in the legs.
What would you do differently?:

Get my new suit back
Bike
  • 38m 37s
  • 20 kms
  • 31.07 km/hr
Comments:

I had a good bike. The loaner Zipp Wheels were awesome. I was passing a lot of people and the hills felt WAY better
Considering my bike was the crappiest one in my AG, 8/33 is a good placing.

Last year's bike time was 39:54 Ave speed 30.1
What would you do differently?:

Ride a better bike :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Run
  • 24m 58s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 59s  min/km
Comments:

My left knee was not happy and was even unhappier running in the grass. The run was a loop but because of all the turns, I couldn't get a sense of where the finish line was, resulting in a too early push to the end. I was dying and close to hurling at the finish line...can't wait to see the photo :)
Run slower than last year, but everyone's was.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I ran as hard as I could.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried not to hurl

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stoopid wetsuit
Cranky knees

Event comments:

So the first results out say I'm 6/32 in my AG. Subaru gives hardware to the top 5 because they are big AG's. Oh well, I think, missed the hardware again by one placing....what else is new, this is the bane of my existence.
So final results were posted online...I look and now I'm 5/33...WTF!!?
I guess I have "invisible hardware" :) :) I'll take it, though!!

WOWSERS.  5/32?!   YAY!

Your cranky knees still went WAY fast!!  Merde!

If you aren't going to buy a house then maybe you should buy a new bike!

I'm so happy you've had a good start to your season, unlike last year.
