Hey gang! Greetings from SoCal. Just checking to see if anyone has signed up late for the Lifetime tri this weekend?!?!

I know it is expensive, so it may be a turn off to some, but it will be my first Oly. My buddy John and I are into the lake at 7:10am! Clydesdale Oly.

Hope to see some of you there...if you have nothing to do, you could come cheer us on!

I am the 6'6 guy with the American flag tattoo on his right arm and "Thor" on his left tricep. I will not be hard to miss...I will be with my buddy who is 6'10! He has some tats too, Army stuff.

Best of luck if you are in another tri that weekend!

I might be cheering... I'll look for the tattoos. Good luck!

Be glad it wasn't this weekend. It was over 80 degrees by 10am this morning.

Best of luck out there Ryan.  Kelly will be in the Pro area body marking the Pro's again this year.  She gets to touch all those people, I am so jealous.

I'll be volunteering at Lifetime with the Minnesota Tri Club. I think we are working in the transition area somewhere

I plunked down the big bucks to try Lifetime for the first time.  Seeing the race televised last year convinced me I should try Lifetime at least one time.  Any advice from anyone who has done Lifetime before?

Get there early is the only advice I have. My sister did the sprint last year. My buddy and I are getting there early...getting our T spots, then if we need a nap we will. The parking can be bad!!!

I'm registered and my neighbor is coming too.  I also wanted to experience it since it is so well known.

Anyone know what are good places to park?  Would it be best to have one guy drop off the stuff and go park?

If you get there early enough, you will be fine. It is when the spectators start to show up that traffic and parking gets bad.

PS.

I will be wearing either my BT tshirt or a black GEARWEST sweatshirt. See you all there! I fly in tomorrow and packet pick up on Friday!

This will be my first triathlon. I live across the street from Nokomis so I have watched the race many times but this is the first time I will be a part of it. I'll be wearing a Pink Floyd cycling jersey. I have been a recreational jogger for many years but until now I have never swam more than 25 yards without stopping. I have been putting in a lot of training time in the water so I am really excited about the whole deal.

When an earlier poster talked about getting to the site early how early did they mean? I think the transition area opens at 4:30 AM do people really start showing up that early? Does anyone with experience with this race have a suggestion for a good location within the transition area to park. Since I have never done one of these races I am most concerned about the transitions. Is it better to be closer to the beach, the bike exit, or the run exit etc? Or will it not make a difference? I am really near sighted and I don't have contacts so when I come out from the swim I will be basically running blindly so I am thinking I want a spot closer to the beach. Any thoughts. Thanks.

Some races will split up the transition area by your division (age group, elite, novice, etc), so you might not have much choice as to your spot in transition. Just try to make it really visible (I have a lime green bucket at my transition when I race....that way if a contact pops out when I'm swimming, I can still find my spot!)

Traveling up from Chicago as it will be my first olympic. Staying with my sis in South St. Paul. I'm interested to hear how early people are getting there. Is 6AM arrival cutting it too close?

I think we're planning on hitting Uptown at night for some good times as well. Looking forward to the race.

I'm sure there will be some people there at 4:30 am when T area opens, yes. I was not one of them when I did this race three years ago. I think I got there at about 5:45 and was fine.

The T area is so huge that it really doesn't make a ton of difference where you are located from a time advantage standpoint. (I'm talking for the average, MOP racer. Hardware contenders may have a different view.) And, you may have an assigned rack. I don't think I did in 2004, but that may have changed. Since your sight is your primary concern, I'd get as close to the beach as you can and mark your spot with something very bright, as androgenie suggested.

If you're doing the sprint, be prepared to wait for quite a while; I think the T area closed at 7:00 am the year I raced, and my start time wasn't until 10:30 am. So I took a snack, disposable water bottle, and my cap and goggles when T closed. I was able to watch the first several pros finish before heading to the beach for my start.

Best of luck!

I'm in...but get this...I'm doing the swim leg of a team relay!  Ironic...my weakest discipline, but the guy who's biking and the guy who's running both DON'T want to swim...corporate sponsorship, or otherwise I wouldn't spend the money on the entry fee...it would be nice if the lake temps stay cool...I can do the whole distance (sprint) with no problem, but just SLOW...wetsuit would be nice...

I agree on the parking situation...the earlier the better.  We usually get there by 5:45am and haven't had too much problem...as you're going north on Cedar we take a left just after the bridge over Nokomis and bike over (helmets required on the ride).  It's a LONG STINKING WAIT for wave starts, though.  Bring something to read or take a nap...

Good luck to everyone...

Denise, way to go!  I know you've been trying to get your bf involved in tris for a long time...looks like this is the first step.  Good luck tomorrow...

I know Lifetime Fitness Tri is a HUGE event...we typically haven't tried to meet in the past because it's hard to find ANYONE, let alone the folks you came up to do the event with.  This happened to me my first year...got separated from my running group...didn't end up seeing any of them until after the race finish...

Looks like it should be wetsuit legal tomorrow.  Swam a quick 300 in Nokomis this morning.  Felt like about 72 or so...didn't have my water thermometer with me, and of course this was at 6am.

Good luck tomorrow everyone...if you see a short--5'6"--Filipino guy, yell out 'Sal' or 'sparco.'  If I turn around and notice, I'll stop and talk to ya...

Hey everyone..

This will be my first tri tomorrow, and I'm very nervous.

Just wondering -- I do not own a wetsuit; will I freeze??

Don't worry if you don't have a wetsuit. I went for a quick swim there this morning and it was perfect out. It will probably seem a little cooler than a pool if that is what you are used to but you will be so amped up on nervousness and adreneline that it will seem just right. It is my first race too. Good luck.

No.  I swam in a tri suit this morning.  I just like swimming with a wetsuit because of the added buoyancy (I float about as well as a rock!).  Good luck tomorrow.
