HFP Racing

Sunny
Total Time = 08m 15s
Overall Rank = 289/318
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 6/10
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30 am to eat and drive the 2 hrs to the race. Got there with plenty of time. Got to figure out how to dirve a Mustang across a rutted field. I'm glad my hubby wasn't there he would of had a fit about taking his baby cross country :)
Event warmup:

Set up in trans and went to check out the water. Swam for about 5-10 min
Swim
  • 22m 5s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a kind of slow for me swim. I felt good but keep getting caught in traffic and I'm trying to stop giving way all the time but it is hard when the folks keep swimmming on you. But I was OK with my time and the longish run to trans.
What would you do differently?:

Not run into the walking guy.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
What would you do differently?:

Not anything I can think of
Bike
  • 44m 54s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.73 km/hr
Comments:

Good bike, kept it in the big ring about 90% of the time. And was in the Areeo bars for about 80% of the time. Felt great and passed alot of people. only got passed by the really fast folks. Over all I am very happy with my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Had a little diffaculty racking my bike due to having so many bike on the rack and having moautain bikes on both sides of me. Their handle bars were kind of in the way and I didn't want to knock them off the rack or any thing. Not the bikers fault just alot of bike/little room
What would you do differently?:

Not try to stand on one foot with my bike shoes on. Balance not good.
Run
  • 37m 33s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I did not have a good run I couldn't get my HR down and I just had no energy. And I really wanted to push it but just could not seem to get into a pace. I have been having a prob. with my running. and my times seem to be going the wrong direction. I have to figure out what I am doing wrong. Have gone in a year to running 9:30 min/mi to the 11:00-12:00 min/mi
What would you do differently?:

Maybe more bike/ run brick. and more speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

drank water and had some water melon. Walked around then drove home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to work more on keepimg my line in the swim and fix the running prob. So I guess I limited myself somewhat

Event comments:

HFP puts on the good race. This is a nice course and I had a good time overall.

Nice job Chris!  Way to push through and get another race in the books.    You are such an inspiration!

Chris,
One of the things my brother told me last year, while he was training for a HIM, is that he found the long runs were actually slowing him down.  I am not sure why that was, but my guess is it was training at the slower pace became ingrained.  You train at a pace and then you race at about that same speed.  It is awfully hard to speed yourself up for a shorter race.

I don't know if that is the case or not, but it makes a certain amount of sense to me.

Looks like you enjoyed the race.  It was pretty hot and the tree cover was great, but not enough of it.  The rollers along the ride were pretty great.

Thanks and you are prob. right. I have to just suck it up and do some form of speed work. I should be faster than last year 'cause I'm 30lbs lighter. So I'll just work it out. Thanks for the information. And I did enjoy the race. Thinking about maybe changing the Great Buckeye Challenge to the Oly distance. Then doing the 1/2 Toyota at Deer Creek.

Thanks again and maybe I'll finally meet you at a race.

Great race report Chirs,

If you do the Oly, you have to post how that goes. I am scared to move up, so at least you will give others inspiration

Cheers,

Chris

How's the hill profile for the sprint? Many hills or turns?

I am (hopefully) doing the sprint next week.

You'll do just fine! I'm doing the Mini next week. As for the hills on the sprint they were rollers and the turns were not bad and well marked. You should have no prob. at all with them. Luck to you and maybe I'll see ya there. I'll be in theTeam Javelin kit riding the Yellow /Black Javelin(the "Killer BumbleBee". Stop and say HI!! I'd love to meet you.

I hope to be racing. I sent in my application a few weeks ago but I'm not registered. I'll have to work it out at the Great Wolf Lodge I guess. My family and I are staying there for the weekend.

I should be racing M30-34. I should stand out like a sore thumb. I'll be wearing a Florida Gators bike jersey on the race.

Hope to see you there!

Steve
