Pre-race routine:

still new to long course tris so went with the old eggos and milk with a little gatorade on the drive there. The old iron stomach felt great no problems
Event warmup:

very little, extremely nervous with the uncertainty of the swim. Saturday they said could turn into a duathlon because of rip currents and high winds and big waves. Got there and they said will have a swim but shortened due to 5-7 foot waves. Could not find disc chuck to pump up race wheels so tires were a little soft so add that into the mix. Went down to the beach a little before 7:00 for the 7:30 start.

Comments:

How do you comment on this? At one point probaly 400 meters in a huge wave threw me over two people and I had to stand up to see where I ended up. To my surprise there was probaly a dozen other people standing looking where we had to go.
What would you do differently?:

learn to fly and avoid the waves?

Comments:

Great bike for me. Wanted to avg 21 and thought on the way out with the crosswinds/headwind it might be possible on the way back to pick it up a little but about 12 miles in I was feeling great and started my move and probaly moved up about 10 places on the bike. Extactic with the 21.93 avg. Did have a scary moment just after the first time through the aid station I went to hard into the corner and went off the road through someones front yard and luckily got back on the road with no harm.

Comments:

Felt like running in a furnace. Hot as hell with a little breeze which kind of helped but definatly not enough. I started around 7:40's and got down to 7:04 by mile 5 but heat and fatigue played in by 10 and just kept grinding til the finish. Everyone was dying out there and I think I was a little fresher than most so I worked off that to keep catching people.
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Event comments:

12th overall but I think I was 11th because I never saw the female champ out there who finished 8th overall. Her bike split was 23.9, when last year she was 20.5 avg. Either she missed a turn or she had quite a year of training on the bike. Everyone ahead of me passed by at the bike turnaround and I never saw here.

Course: swim was cut down to a 600 meter swim with a long run on the beach to the boardwalk to get your shoes and then a 800 meter run to T1. Don't ask me but that was a strange set up to have such a long run to get to T1.

Great race!  Bummer about the swim having to be cut short, but still a really nice bike and great run to finish it off.

Nice race.  Sounds like great body surfing conditions. Congrats on the AG and overall placings.
