Total Time = 2h 19m 44s
Overall Rank = 83/103
Age Group = 20-29
Age Group Rank = 11/12
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am and got ready. I had a bowl of oatmeal and got picked up by Ryan and drove the 1:30 to the race.
Event warmup:

Got my transition setup and took a swim in the lake.
Swim
  • 19m 24s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim. Was the most crowded swim I've ever done. I was fighting people the entire swim. Felt pretty good as it was the first swim I have ever freestyled the entire swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to eat some more solids before the race. The last 1/4 of the swim my stomach was feeling empty. I had a hammer gel before the swim which gave me the energy, but my stomach hurt.

I haven't swam since my last race. My training really sucked lately. My arms were tired by the end.
Transition 1
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Good transition and I minimized my switching. No cool wings, no gloves and no socks. Getting on the bike I had a real problem getting my right foot to clip
What would you do differently?:

Clip in better!
Bike
  • 1h 00m 23s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 17.39 mile/hr
Comments:

I flew up the first hill. Passing people on some sexy bikes. After a while I felt not so great on the bike, but after a couple more miles I was flying. On the downhill I was really happy with the extra gear on my 12-23. A lot of people ran out of gears and I was able to keep peddling and make up huge gaps on the downhills. On the way down the canyon I also took it very fast and passed 4 people since they were being cautious and I love flying downhill.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster and clip in better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

A little slow as I had to get my socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Get quicker or run without socks.
Run
  • 55m 23s
  • 5.25 miles
  • 10m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

Very difficult course. The run up the canyon kicked my butt. I was running a 7-8 min pace and then bit it after that climb. Lots of walking for about a mile after that. Then around mile 2 I ran the rest of the way except one major hill coming into the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. My run training has also been non-existent.
Post race
Warm down:

Fall over and die.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and difficulty of the course.

Event comments:

Fun and challenging race and it was nice too see my boys on the course.

Course: A loop course that was pretty difficult. First you go out of the lake park and go straight up the Snake River Canyon! I felt great up that climb. Passed a lot of people. Living where we are always climbing really helped out. Most of the rest of the course was up hill with some fun down hills.
