Musselman Triathlon
Total Time = 5h 24m 24s
Overall Rank = 117/623
Age Group = 24 and Under
Age Group Rank = 6/12
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30am, small bowl of Kashi with soy milk and raisins, whole banana. Quick shower and shave, then packed up the car to get the race site.
Event warmup:

Light jogging and got in a good stretch. Not too much of a warmup, planned to use the first loop of the swim as a warmup.
Swim
  • 47m 1s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt very relaxed and comfortable. Swam off course twice which cost me time.
What would you do differently?:

Better sighting, more work in open water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Decent T1, had a little trouble with the wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting out of wetsuit
Bike
  • 2h 52m 18s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed a good pace, and stayed in the big ring except for one climb. Bounced a bottle before the halfway point but continued on without it. Took in 5 GU's, 1 1/2 packages of Clif Shot Blocks, 1 aerodrink and 2 bottles of GU20 as well as one bottle of water. Could have used some endurolytes. Passed a ton of people on the ride, only got caught by about 3 people.
What would you do differently?:

Not bounce bottle, bring endurolytes or other way to consume more electrolytes.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Great T2, almost ran over some people that were dismounting at a standstill but got around them. Had the 25th faster T2 of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Be cleaner and faster.
Run
  • 1h 42m 24s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs just did not want to move. Had terrible cramps, really wish I had taken in some endurolytes. I hammered through the run and some tough hills, it was a great mental workout. Desperately wanted to go faster, but by mile 7 or 8 my legs just would not respond.
What would you do differently?:

ENDUROLYTES throughout the day. More brick workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice bath and lots of fluids. Walked around finish area and did some strechting. Ate tons of free food and hung out with some awesome BT peeps. Saw Bob collect his hardware and watched his son take home 3rd in the kids race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, and lack of knowledge about long distances.

Event comments:

Phenomenal event. Very well run and the volunteers were great and so eager to help. Late in the run I was yelling for a cup of Coke but there were none ready, some teenage kid poured a cup and chased me down to get it to me. I turned around thanked him profusely and told him he made my day. I will most certainly be back next year.

Congratulations on a great race, especially for hammering out that fast run despite the challenge of it!
