Pre-race routine:

We stayed with my uncle who I have not visited with in years. It was great to see him and my cousin. I didn't sleep hardly at all the night before. I don't know if it was the distraction or just being nervous. I definately will think about trying something to help me sleep the night before a race.
Event warmup:

I really wasn't prepared for this race in almost every way. I didn't even have some good pre-race food. We stopped by a convienience store on the way and I got a snickers marathon protien bar. That was it.
Swim
  • 33m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did ok on the swim. I didn't push it, I just wanted to have a comfortable swim and hope that the current would give me that extra push. It seemed like it lasted forever. The great thing is that I ran into Donmck at the end.
What would you do differently?:

um, like swim more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

I was tired from the swim. Looking at steps to run up was something else. I just walked up the stairs.
Bike
  • 1h 44m 7s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 14.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow, I couldn't believe how I didn't have it when I started the bike. Usually the bike is my best event and I really was terrible on this bike. There were really long hills - not terribly steep, just long. I don't know why I didn't have it to get my big butt up those hills. I definately on a good day could have ridden much faster.
What would you do differently?:

be in better shape
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I don't know how my transition times are so poor. I really tried to be fast.
Run
  • 1h 31m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 14m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I REALLY blew the race. Since we started so late and I stunk so badly on the bike, it was hot and I was really tired. I definately am capable of doing that run in an hour at least.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training, gaining weight, no sleep the night before. Poor nutrition...basically everything.

Event comments:

I really want to do this one again next year just to see if I can improve my time.
