Pre-race routine:

Susan and I drove up to Richmond on Saturday afternoon. We checked-in at 3-Sport and then drove the bike course with a couple other local tri-club members. The course looked relatively flat with some hills. Looked like fun! After checking out the bike course we headed to dinner. We had a great time with Sue and Josh and then did a little shopping. We were back to the hotel around 9pm and in bed shortly thereafter! Got our wake-up call prompty at 5:15 and were out the door by 5:35. I had a banana, bagel with peanut butter and a small cup of apple juice. Oh, I did have a mishap that had the potential for disaster...Went to the bathroom about an hour before race time. Pulled my tri-suit back up and ....my zipper was SO stuck. I didn't want to yank it and break it, but was having visions of tearing to the closest retailer for a new suit. Susan put soap on it and I wiggled and jiggled it and if finally came up, but the trouble was it didn't want to stay up! The rest of the the day I had to zip it up every few minutes. Anyway, thanks Sue!!!
Event warmup:

No warming-up, just visited with other club members.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was an easy swim. I wasn't particulary fast, but I haven't been training for speed. I didn't pass anybody and one person passed me. I actually had alot of room between the person in front of me and the person behind me which helped me to really enjoy the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start working on speed more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

I'm usually really good on transitions and should have been on this one, but couldn't get my gloves on and spent waaaaay to much time on that.
What would you do differently?:

Let the glove thing go after initial trouble.
Bike
  • 43m 36s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.11 mile/hr
Comments:

I was pleased with my ride. I didn't pass much and didn't get passed much. The hills were a bit deceiving and so had to work a little harder than I initailly thought I would, but I was pleased with the ride and my average speed is made this one of my better rides!
What would you do differently?:

Just train more on hills which is in the works.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Again a disappointing trans. I was doing great but almost made out the run before someone yelled I didn't have my number, dumb, dumb, dumb!
What would you do differently?:

Not forget my number!!!!!
Run
  • 32m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I started slow, getting my legs under me, but progressivly stronger, The run felt great! I did fall on the way back... I tripped over a ledge in the sidewalk and took a tumble on the grass. Nothing hurt, just my pride.
What would you do differently?:

Start a little stronger.
Post race
Warm down:

Just hung out and visited with other club members. I gotta say they were an aswesome cheering section it was fun to be together:)

Nice job! I was there too - sorry we didn't meet. The hills are a little decieving, aren't they? (I live nearby and train there a lot, but I still am surprised at that first hill up the main road...)

Congratulations on a nice race!

Great job on the race!!  The hills on the course are always pretty deceptive.  I forget about them and I train in the area.  Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you.

Nice job, way to go!!!!  You had better get a new tri suit - you won't be having any time to be pulling up your zipper at Columbia  It's great you got through the swim w/out having to do combat.  Super speedy bike and run.

 Way to go!!!!
