I am. I flew in from Ohio to do it 2 years ago, and it was a really well organized event then. Now that I'm a local I'm looking forward to it.

I am in for the quarterman.  Elheffe99 is coming from Cali as well.  Probably a lot of out of town BTrs will come, but he is the only one I know about so far.

Jeremiah - The SOMA was my first 'real' race when I did it last year.  It was my goal race and the one I was training for.  I did the Timex sprint as part of my preparation.  I would recommend doing a sprint race before the SOMA just to get a feel for the race day experience, transitions, etc. if you get a chance.  It will make the SOMA more enjoyable.  Just my two cents...

I agree with Brian.  Do a sprint first just to work out your first race freak out, and to fully figure out transitions and how the whole thing works, and THEN you can rock it at SOMA!

All words of wisdom. Lets do a big time bike ride before! I know it will be hard to coordinate but we need to all get together and ride into the sunset. Lets set a future date. Sometime in September?? give me your input.

I like the BIG GROUP ride idea (especially since we need to be doing that in training for El Tour). I am doing the Quarterman...wish I could do the half but I would DIE! I am VERY excited for this race YEE HOOO!!!

It's the el Tour de Tucson century ride. 109 miles. 25th year. You get 2 finnishers medals becuase of that fact!! We wanted to do it as a group.  More about just finnishing it and enjoying all the food tents along the way then actually meeting some goal time.  Here are the details: http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/!ETT/ETThome.html

Do you know if they allow tri bikes? Mine isn't a converted road bike. I know I can't do regular bike races with it--for good reason since it's much wobblier. And, although I'm tempted, I'm not getting another toy...at least this year. The shed and now even the living room are overflowing with gear as it is...kind of cool though.

Without kids I've been able to spend all my extra money on toys for myself, hehe. Sporty and Robot, are you listening?!

They probably do not allow tri bikes. I know that we will all have to take our aero bars off our road bikes for the race.

Hehe, Astrid.  You're bad.  I think Josh and Jen need to practice for a few more years before trying to make a final build on a kid.

Anyway...Between all of us, we should probably be able to rustle you up a road bike you could use.  Ofcourse, it IS 109 miles, and would have to be something comfortable for you that you could ride beforehand.  I know a few people in Flag I can try calling if you're interested.

I'm in on the long ride Scottrazo suggested btw.

I think rules are no aero bars, if you could take the aeros off the tri bike you should be fine Astrid! Robot has a road bike, he is 6'0, I know you are tall just not sure how tall. You could always rent one too if you must. The LBS's in Flag would probably be helpful with it. We would LOOOVE if you rode with us, the more the merrier (we would have a kickin paceline!)

Didn't you learn at the cabin this weekend that we are a very diverse and eclectic group of people Harry? SOOO many random topics we can turn to on a dime! All it takes is for someone to drop one shiny word and we are off and scurrying to snatch it up and toss it around.

Ok.....SOMA......back to SOMA

I'll think about it. Tucson that is :)

Biggest problem is the fury monster I live with. He can't just be doggie-sat by anyone... He WILL destroy your house if left alone to deal with his separation anxiety! Plus I'm doing the Parker Tri the weekend before so my BF's nerves will already be shot from having Jake for two whole days that weekend.

Can't take the aero bars off, Jen, because then I don't have any (bar end) shifters!

Thanks for the bike offers!

Sorry to feed the hijack, but I was planning to do El Tour again this year, but a shorter distance.  But if you guys wouldn't mind someone else tagging along with you, I would love to join your group for the long ride.  I pretty much rode it solo last year.
