Sunny
Total Time = 1h 28m 55s
Overall Rank = 141/234
Age Group = Clydesdales
Age Group Rank = 7/14
Pre-race routine:

Bagel with peanut butter on way to race. Got Karen, Maddie, and Amanda up and moving and headed out the door to race.
Event warmup:

Ran back to car to retrieve pump since I had only remembered to pump up the bike tire and not BOTH OF THEM!
Swim
  • 17m 54s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

Went out a little too hard in the first 200m. We started in the water hanging onto a dock. There were more people in the waves than could comfortably fit into the space. I sprinted out to try to get clear of some of the traffic. The first time that I looked up to sight I was at a buoy. Was really thinking I was kicking ##@ until I looked further out and realized that wasn't the turn buoy--just the sighting buoy. CRAP!! Decent swim but I got my heart rate up and struggled thru the rest.

SWIM #2--Legs felt like total lead weights when I first hit the water. Swim was ok, but mixed in a lot more breast stroke in this swim. Think my time was still close to my goal.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out what my issue is with the swim. My shoulders start kicking about 200m into the first swim and felt like crap thru the second. It feels like I've got some mechanics issue with my stroke.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

1st TA from swim to run went well (1:19). No real issues
TA from Run 1 to Bike (1:53)--Miserable job clipping into pedals
What would you do differently?:

Not act like I had 3 left feet
Bike
  • 39m 2s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Was stomping folks left and right on the ride. Dropped 15 people during one hill. Got passed by about 6 people total, but only couldn't play tag with one of them. Pretty strong ride although I felt crappy. I think I underhydrated and under-ate
What would you do differently?:

Keep doing what I've been doing. I felt weak on the bike and still turned in a 20mph+ ride on a decently hilly course
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

TA from Bike to Run#2--Good, no issues
TA from Run#2 to Swim#2--Pretty good, goggles on and little trouble getting my fancy hair-net...I mean swim cap...back on
What would you do differently?:

Pretty good transitions
Run
  • 33m
  • 2.75 miles
  • 12m  min/mile
Comments:

Very weak on both runs. HR was way up on first one from the swim. My right foot was seriously kicking my butt. Took the three weeks off after Latta trying to rehab it. This is by far the worst it's felt, particularly while running
What would you do differently?:

Borrow someone else's right foot
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with Karen & the kids. Got my stuff together and grabbed some watermelon and canteloupe

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me :)

Event comments:

This was my first race ever (last summer). It's an interesting format and really applies some special challenges
