Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 27s
Overall Rank = 107/196
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 14/32
Pre-race routine:

Klynne and I drove to Richmond on Sat to pick up the race packet at 3 Sports. We met 2 of the CAT members at the YMCA to drive the bike course, then had dinner together. K and I went to the Short Pump mall.(what else were two ladies supposed to do all by themselves, with no kids):)
Event warmup:

Got up at 5:15 and hit the free breakfast for english muffin w/peanut butter and coffee. The drove to the Y. Set up transition, which was a perfect spot. K and I had the last racks right beside the bike exit. Got chip and body marked. We had a long wait before our swim times and found the gang of CAT members, chatted and took some picks.
Swim
  • 07m 16s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went really well. I was right on pace. The only problem that I had on the swim was having to fight with the old man that was ahead of me. On the second length, I tapped him on the foot to pass. He would not let me get around him so I thought he was going to let me get around him at the wall. WRONG! I again tapped him and tried to get around him and as I did, he HIT me with every stroke. I felt he was doing this on purpose because I was giving him plenty of room. Finally at the wall he said "JUST GO!" I was ahead of him for the rest of the time except for the last lap where he came right up beside me and did the same thing- this time I decided to give him some of his own and gave him a nice strong elbow to his side. I mean-come on- leave this kind of stuff for the open water. We were in a pool for pete-sake, where was I supposed to go!!
What would you do differently?:

Other than having to beat up an old guy nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

This was a good trans for me. I did forget to pick up my GU, and I had left my sunglasses in the hotel. I decided to be a bit faster and not put my socks on, or the bike gloves.
What would you do differently?:

Not forget the GU and sunglasses.
Bike
  • 39m 13s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Glad we rode the bike course the night before. But that was a bit diceving. It looked like the course was mostly down hil, and Josh had said that it was. I think that it was a nice grade up with a few downhills. We did have to contend with a bit of wind.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I'm really proud of this ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

I had to take the time to put the socks on because I didn't want to chance a blister. I have never run without socks.
Run
  • 32m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Was faster than I thought. Had to walk for a few short periods.
What would you do differently?:

NOT WALK!!!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Went back to where a few of our tri club members were to cheer for the rest of the club that were still out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The biggest problem that limited me for this race was not working out for almost 10 days prior to this race. I'm really mad at myself for being so lazy!!! NO MORE LONG TAPERS, JOSH!!!!!!:)

Event comments:

3 Sports was a really fun race. I was glad that alot of our CAT tri club members participated at this race. We had a great showing.

Nice race & RR - glad to hear you hit the mall on Saturday night, an excellent pre-race strategy that I'm going to need to adopt.

Funny story about whacking the little old man - at least you meant to do it! (Is that really better? I always tell me kids it's OK if its an accident, but after the swim yesterday, I'm not so sure. )

Great job on the race!  I feel like I get banged around in pool swims more than in open water ones.

Look at you, super speedy woman!!!!  Great race!!  I had thought a race w/ a pool swim would be a good thing, but you are making me reconsider that notionSmile

Way to go!!!

What a great race! You have to be proud- you were FAST on the bike!

Sorry you got into a scuffle in the pool- that's always a challenge but you came back strong. WTG!!!
