Pre-race routine:

got up at 4am had my normal mini bagel with jelly and juice. Made sure i had all my things, then left to meet up with my teammates so we could car-pool up.
Event warmup:

did a short little run, and short swim.
Swim
  • 30m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim started out a little rough, placed myself in the back and to the right based on my last swim were i was slower than normal, but for some reason i swam my normal pace which cause me to swim in some traffic. Once i got clean water i felt i was having a good swim for me. The back end of the course i could not see the last buoy and i needed to turn right at the buoy so i kept swimming to my left, so i didn't take the fastest line, but that's normal for me.
What would you do differently?:

swim a straight line.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

just an avg T1 for me. I am not fast or slow here. Of course i could be faster.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 53s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.03 mile/hr
Comments:

don't know if i would say the course had a bunch of hills, but the course wasn't flat like the RD said it was. :) A lot of turns on the course, i like a course where you just go and don't need to turn that often. This wasn't a great bike for me, not sure what i was waiting for but it seemed i was just out for a ride rather than a race. I need to get a killer instinct where i just go all out during a race.
What would you do differently?:

need to go faster
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

nothing much happen here, did the best that i could
Run
  • 52m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

this is where my race normally fall apart. I am not good off the bike. I felt like i was running slower than i really was (which is good for me). During the run i kept trying to pick up the pace up i couldn't get myself to run faster, it's like i only have one speed during the run. This is something i REALLY need to work on.
What would you do differently?:

I need to try and run faster off the bike. This is a goal of mine for the rest of this year and next year.
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with my teammates. A few of my teammates collected some hardware including Mike who came in 1st overall for the sprint race. Maybe he can show me how to go fast during the run.

Event comments:

This was a great race. Very well organized, great volunteers. I will be back next year.

hey nice job! that was a great bike split, 21mph/av is awesome and you say you didn't go all out, imagine what you'd do if you really mashed it up...

more and more BTers than i thought were at this race... i did the sprint...

You can go back into your RR and add the time and make any other edits you want. Do it via the same steps you used to write your RR .

Great job! I think you did excellent, especially considering that your training has been lighter this year than in years past. Learn to swim in a straight line and regain that killer instinct on the bike, and you'll be doing great. I'm glad you really liked the race; I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about it.

Great race John. Glad to see you out there for your first race of the year. You have some time for the rest of the year to get your running speed up. A few track workouts and more bricks. Force yourself to run off the bike every time you ride even if it's only for 1-2 miles. It will pay off big time. Short fast cadence and leg turn over as well.

Nice race.....

Great race John! Don't be so hard on yourself. Try to do short 5-10min. runs after you ride and you'll feel so much better at your next race.
