Subject: Fuel Belt, Number Belt, or Both?
I have my first race coming up and I just wanted to find out how others handle this very minor issue.

I'm not into what they are providing on the course so I'm planning on taking my own drink in my fuel belt. But I was also told that having a race number belt was really convenient.

It seems like wearing both would be wierd but is that the standard way of doing it?

How does everyone else race?

I don't think wearing both is the "standard" way of doing it, because in my experience most people do not wear a fuel belt.  How long of a race are you doing?  Is it long enough that you need to carry that much nutrition with you on the run?

this is what i did, after realizing i needed a little bit of water with me on the run for my GU. I bought two 4oz amphipods and added it to my fuel belt. i've only raced with it once, but it worked well.

I've worn my fuel belt during olympic and longer sprint races. I'm usually at the BOP and sometimes the smaller races run out of water So yes, I wear both a fuel belt and number belt.

For a sprint I would probably skip the fuel belt unless it was super hot.

I think for Steelhead I will skip the fuel belt since there will be water/gatorage at every mile. I'm assuming since it's a big race, there will be adequate water supply.

You can wear both, but in all honesty you don't really need the fuel belt. What is the distance of the race?

If you're doing a sprint, they'll probably just have water on the course. If you're doing an Oly or longer, they should have water, gatorade (or something similar), and maybe gels. If you really think you'll need nutrition on the run portion, contact the RD and ask what they're gonna have.

Good luck !

If I do Oly or longer I bring my fuel belt. I normally wear a number belt and my fuel belt but have seen some folks pin their number to their fuel belt. I was thinking of playing around with that and see if it would work.

If I do a sprint I bring a 10 oz fuel belt bottle and put it in my BT jersey pocket.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I tend to have problems with my breathing when I get too dry on a run, my thoughts to bring the fuel belt have more to do with having water when I need it.

They are also going to be supplying HEED during the race and I prefer Gatorade so that was my second thought.

My fuel belt has the little attachment gimmicks so you can attach your race number. It is fuel belt brand and might be worth the 4 bucks.

My first Oly is coming up.  I was just thinking that a gel on the bike and a drink before dismount should do the trick, along with the aide stations.  Do they often run out of water for BOP?  I expect it will be warm and humid.   Thanks for sharing your experience.
