Comments: What can I say. It was a slugfest. The first 100 meters went pretty well. I had some open water. Then it all just bottlenecked and for the next mile I was getting kicked, scratched. There was not a period of 30 seconds or so that I had open water. I went through the first lap in 42 minutes. I was pretty happy considering the conditions. The next lap was a little clearer, but I thought I would have a much faster split. What would you do differently?: Start in a different spot. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty fast transition. The men's changing tent was pretty crazy. But all together I was happy. Bike
Comments: Considering this course I was very happy with the bike split. It is tough to hold back with the great crowds pumping you up. But I held back and waited until the second lap. With the exception of the flat road heading into Jay with the strong winds I felt great and passed a few people. I had some stomach issues and decided to hold back a little and drink and eat more. I'm glad I did. I recovered and attacked the upcoming hills. I think this was the product of a lot of bike training, particularly with hills in Colorado. Riding up into Lake Placid and through town was one the highlights of my life and something I'll remember forever. What would you do differently?: Not bring as much nutrition. This was my first IM and it was a little too much. Otherwise, I am very happy with this leg. Transition 2
Comments: Changed socks. Otherwise stayed in same clothes. Felt great. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I ran the first 4 miles pretty well. I averaged about 8's. Probably the product of the great crowds and excitement of getting off the bike. But on River rd, it just all fell apart. I was reduced to a walk. I knew walking was inevitable but I was hoping it would come much later. The next 15 miles was a walk with some running thrown in. I didn't take in enough nutrition and was feeling pretty low. Then at around mile 21, I stopped feeling sorry for myself, decided to end this on my terms, and try to break 13:30. The last 5 miles of the run was my fastest. Something that is not seen too much during marathoning. So I was able to finish strong which made finishing even sweeter. What would you do differently?: Eat and drink more. Longer runs during training. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of nutrition Last updated: 2007-03-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:00. Ate a bagel with peanut butter, bowl of oatmeal, pretzels, banana and a cup of coffee. Listened to IPOD took a quick twosy and went back to bed until 4:00. Left for race start around 5:00. I was very satisfied with my prerace routine. I didn't get to the race sight too early. Pumped up tires and drank some sports drink.
No warm up. Listened to IPOD, talked with family, took some pictures.
