Sunny
Total Time = 38m 39s
Overall Rank = 3/60
Age Group = M35-339
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Left work at 5 on the dot. Changed and drove to the Executive. Just talked with people, and did some jogging in place - little stretching... used the POP.
Run
  • 38m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 13s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Didn't truly taper for this or anything, but this was really just a measurement race. Just want to see where I am at so far. Conclusion: I am no where near where I need to ne for my marathon. Good news: I've still go 3+ months!
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged back to cheer on other runners from my club and Joe from UPS.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

10 extra pounds, and not in top form yet. Also in marathon build phase.

Event comments:

Really excellent race! Lots, and LOTS of Voly's - enthusiastic, and having fun! VERY nice little post race BBQ and awards ceremony under the tent. Great to hang out with folks for a bit afterwards. 3rd place got me a free membership for a month. Christine said she got a nice bag and 6 months free membership last year - but not this year. .

Performance: Good
Lap 1 5:58. Felt like it was a good pace -Knew it would be tough to keep for all 6, but was just about my goal pace. lap 2 6:28. I'm a little suprised I dropped by this much as I passed 3 or 4 people. was also passed by Tim Roy (who just ran VT 100 on Saturday!?!?!) Also, Mile 2 is all uphill. lap 3 6:12 seemed to go on forever. Got lost with all the turns out there... lap 4 6:09 Started to really tire. Lost track of ho many miles I had gone - was thing I was in mile 5 for a bit (wishful thinking) lap 5 5:52 Determined to finish strong, and scared to death that 100 mile Tim was going to catch and pass me again!! lap 6 5:58 Where the hell is the finish?!?!!? Finally!....

Nice job getting a hardware.  Not easy to race later in the day after work.

What's that 10 lb you're talking about??

Nice work Dave!

I know your training hasn't been as consistent as you'd like it, but being able to rip off a sub 39 considering where you are is just awesome!

No worries about the mary. training.  You'll nail a sub-3 easy this time.

Most coaches use the Stillman height/weight ratio table for distance runners. The average man is allocated 110 lbs (50kg) for the first 5 feet (1.524m) in height. Thereafter, he is allocated 5½ lbs (2.495 kg) for every additional inch (O.025m) in height.

Thus, a man 6 feet tall (1.829m) would be allocated 110lbs (50kg) plus 12 x 5½lbs (2.495kg), which comes to 176 lbs or 12 st 8lbs (80kg). The exceptions to the rule are Japanese wrestlers, heavyweight boxers and certain rugby players, who aim to exceed this weight. Females are allocated 100 lbs (45kg) for the first 5 feet (1.524m) and 5lbs (2.268kg) for every inch thereafter. Therefore a woman who is 5 ft 6ins (1.676m) tall would be given 100 lbs plus 6 x 5lbs, which totals 130 lbs or 9st.4lbs (59kg).

These allocations are considered healthy guidelines for non-active people. However, a distance runner needs to weigh less, about 5 to 10 per cent less. This makes our 6 foot tall male requiring to be 8 to 17 lbs less than his 1761bs, around 168lbs to 159 lbs. And our female of 5ft 6ins should be around 6 lbs to 13lbs less, around 124 lbs to 117 lbs.

Thanks for checking in, Rick! And thank for your confidence! When you were up in April, you probably didn't see any hills  -  But this silly marathon course manages to find all of the hills here in town!

Ah well - having fun meanwhile....

Wow, not only first in your age group, but overall podium!  Awesome job, you must be one of those guys who cleans out the stuff in the food tent before I even finish!!

He he-  Thanks, Max!

It's fun to be able to place like that - I think it's my first time since high school.  It was a VERY SMALL race.  AND a good BBQ after!

OMG - I'm so glad I just checked your blog.  Wednesday's entry was truly STIRRING... ;-)

I'm SURE I just extended my life by a couple of hours. Thank you!

And Holy Crap - I just finally read your IMLP RR - Awesome write up, and congrats for gettin' it done! You inspired me to look up the date for next year and put it on my calender to go up and support some fellow BTers...Awesome stuff!
