Overcast
Total Time = 1h 28m 34s
Overall Rank = 66/136
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 12/18
Pre-race routine:

We were one of the first people there so we got a great location to rack our bikes. Got checked in quickly and then began to warm up.
Event warmup:

Rode about 6 km easy around part of the course with 2 sets of intervals for 30 seconds each. Easy jog for about 1/2 mile.
Swim
  • 10m 59s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was harder than I thought it was going to be. I never really got comfortable in the water. I had to turn over on my back 4 times to get comfortable. Considering that, it wasn't a bad time.

What would you do differently?:

Do a practice swim before hand and be in the water at the start, not waiting to get into the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Overall a good transition. I really wanted to get out of the water before as many people as I could since it was a smaller transition area and because the start of the bike course was fairly narrow. Even though my swim was just okay, I was in a good position coming out of the water.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 54m 29s
  • 21.21 kms
  • 23.36 km/hr
Comments:

I thought my struggles on the bike were due to using my legs too much on the swim. While that might have been the case somewhat, I realized about 1/3 into the ride that something was rubbing on a tire but I couldn't figure out what. After the race, I discovered that my front tire was wobbling. I had rode the course a week ago in sub 40 minutes to this had a huge impact on my time.

What would you do differently?:

Check my bike after the practice ride to make sure that everything is okay and again before heading to the start.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Thought T2 went okay.
What would you do differently?:

I had to come to a near complete stop the way the entrance to the transition area was set up so I need to practice jumping off the bike in tighter quarters.
Run
  • 20m 41s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Very pleased with my run, especially considering how disappointed I was going into it mentally. I wasn't passed at all, though there probably weren't many people behind me to begin with.

What would you do differently?:

Push myself a little bit harder throughout the run as I had plenty of energy left at the end of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

None. I just wanted to get out of there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Starting out the swim too fast and the mechanical issue with the bike.

Event comments:

I look forward to redeeming myself next year.

Sucks about your tire! Otherwise sounds like you did pretty well. Wish I would have paid more attention to who was doing this so I could have met more BTers at this one! Can I expect to see you at the Black Squirrel tri next month?

Live and learn I guess. I hope to do the Black Squirrel but August is a busy month for me but I really don't want to have this race and the result be my last tri of the year so hopefully I'll be able to make it work.
