Overall Rank = 115/158
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/16
Pre-race routine:

Stopped first for body marking then picked up race packet. Took everything to Trans area, racked bike, applied race numbers where needed and set up gear.
Event warmup:

A couple jogs back and forth from trans area to swim start. Eventually put wetsuit on and swam a little before my wave started.
Swim
  • 30m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt great on the swim. I would say it was my best of the year. The Black Pearl is an incredible wetsuit and I'm glad I bought it.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I can see to do would be to start as far to the right as possible and have a straighter track to the first buoy.
Transition 1
  • 04m 24s
Comments:

It was a considerable distance from the T area to the timing mat. But others beat my trans time by minutes so that's not really a valid excuse for taking longer then some. It was also approx. 200 yards ffrom swim finish to trans area.
What would you do differently?:

I could have ran faster from swim to bike. I could have left off socks but the tops of my feet werre a little sun burnt from a day at the beach. I could have left off gloves.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 22s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.79 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs felt a little tired from the start. I kept my usual cadence (93-98) and was passed several times. I saw that the riders passing me were pedaling slower then I was and at one point, after being passed, I shifted until my cadence was the same as my passer. I seemed to pick up speed and actually passed the person I'd been trailing for several miles. Makes me want to experiment with cadence. I averaged over 18 mph and that's what I wanted to do.
What would you do differently?:

Again, no excuses, but I haven't felt 100% since IMCDA a month ago. I also haven't trained a lot since the IM. I don't know that being fresh would have made a big difference because some athletes there were just plain fast, period. I can only do what I can do.
Transition 2
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

I kept my shoes on because the trans area was grass and I could run normally. I had my gloves off before the finish and took my helmet off right away.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have run faster with my bike.
Run
  • 53m 37s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

The first three miles felt great, but I slowed considerably between miles 4-5. I picked it up again and actually had a gppd kick at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I gave it my all-not a lot I could have done differently. Actually, my time was every bit as good as the 10k race I ran on 7/4 so I'm not complaining.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit and did some light stretching. Went through recovery and ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt tired during bike and run, period.

Event comments:

It's a fun race, plus I got to see Bonnie (leopard 8996) and her husband Preston.

Super race..congrats!

Super you were well over 18 mph on the bike..swimming fast and finished with run pace I can only dream about.

I think you have the distance/pace goofed up on your swim 30 hours per 100 yds...wow..that would make for one long swim

Congrats...sounds like that wetsuit agrees with you...whoop whoop!

Nice race. I think we may have actually met while waiting in the water for our wave to start. I was wearing the T1 First Wave.
