Slow down a bit on this first run!

Comments:

Oh boy...I wasn't ready for the hills! See ealier comment about the run. I didn't feel like I was in a good rythem until about 10 miles. My legs felt sluggish probably because I pushed a little too hard on the first run.
What would you do differently?:

??? Not sure about this right now.

  • 00m 58s
Run
  • 22m 20s
  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

I found pain!!! The toll of the first run and hilly bike hit pretty hard. This was all I had! My legs started to cramp up on the last mile. I'm not sure that I drank enough on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself a little better.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I wasn't sure how to train for this race so next year I'm hoping to make great improvements now that I have an idea what to expect.

Event comments:

What a first class event! The event was very well ogranized and both USAT officials and HFP officials were very helpful. Just all in all a great event with a great goody bag!

Wow! What a great event! It was a nice opportunity to participate in a national level event! USAT and HFP racing put on a first class event. I'm looking forward to next year's race in Richmond VA. I might just get hooked on Duathlons!

great job! I used to race Duathlons in the eary 90's and I find them harder than triathlon. The first run really can wear your legs down, I always seem to drop a mph or 2 average on the bike, then the second run is tough because unlike triathlon you have to use the same muscles you used earlier. You did great to finish in the top half with that kind of competition some of those people are unbelievable. I do a HFP event every year in Columbus and they do a great job putting on a tri or du.

Thanks! I was happy to salvage a mid pack finish! It was certainly tougher than the Triathlons I've done this year. I like the DUs though because I like to be able to exploit my running a bit more than what I can in the Tris.
