I am going to do the long. I will be staying in Overland Park the night before so if anyone wants to get together that night that would be cool.

If my Achillies isn't still hurting then, I'd like to do the long course. We'll see, though. I think a lot of KS people will be there.

I will be doing the short course. Even that will be straining for me in that heat. I wish we had a few more races in September/October, but seems that the schedule ends at least localy with Sept 9 tri.

For those of you staying in a hotel for this tri, where are you planning? I am not very familiar with the area and would love to stay as close as possible to the race (a bit of extra sleep is nice!)>

I have a few questions, not very smart ones as I am relatively new to tri-s, did only one at Heritage.
What are your thoughts about using wetsuit during this tri. I don't have one, I know it will be warm enough so that is not of concern.
Are there any rules preventing you from biking and running without the shirt, it would help me shave some transition times and it will be hot also.
Thanks

Wearing a wetsuit depends on the temp. and you are allowed if the water is less than 79 I think... In my last tri, last month - I would have overheated with one on for sure.

Wearing a shirt depends on if you are a guy or gal. I am pretty sure gal's have to be covered, but I have seen many men showing their chests!!

I can almost guaruntee you that wetsuits will not be allowed.

I believe males can go shirtless, but you still have to wear your race number for the run.

I suggest going shirtless and a racebelt (women also). It will cut down on T1 time. The BT store has a couple of nice ones. I bought mine here. It has a cellphone, I.D. zipper pocket, elastic for GU Packs and film cannister for pain releavers, and a loop for hat or keys. It was only ablout $10. I use it all the time to train. Remember though the jerseys are designed to keep you cool with the coolmax fabric. Many say wearing a jersey actually keeps you cooler than shirtless. Since it has been pretty cold lately with little humidy in eastern Kansas I think I will wear a wetsuit and cold weather Under Armor for Jackson Co! My bike computer read 100 to 105 today, burrrr.

I don't think anything is planned. I think there is a Starbucks and a couple of bar and grill type places at 135th and Metcalf, if anyone is interested or has a better plan let me know.

I was thinking of staying at the Holiday Express on Lakewood Way. Is this close to the Lake or is there a better place, that is closer?

Nobody has really responded about a meet up the night before. Irealize my location was pretty far south. If anybody living in the KC area has a better plan let us know. I am staying at a relatives near 119th and Quivia the night before. Can anybody tell me how long the drive to the lake is from here?

I wasn't ignoring you! Jackie and I are still trying to figure out where we are staying. I know for sure that we will be out at the course the day before the race to look over the course though.

I usually have a "night-before-the-race" routine I do that I'd like to stick to... plus I will probably want to drive out to the race site the night before - and driving in from Wichita that doesn't leave a whole lot of time for me.

I can bring the sign again (the one in my avatar) and you all can look for it!

I Google-mapped from where I'm staying in Overland Park, the lake is about 19.5 miles/30 minutes from there.

I figure after I get my goodie bag I will drive out to the lake perhaps. I will probably get my goodie bag as early as possible on Sat. then head out to the lake.

I live right off 119th & Quivira, and I think it took about 25-30 minutes to get to the race site last year. Traffic won't be bad at all the morning of the race, so you shouldn't have any problems.

I don't think I'm going to be racing, but I'll probably be there anyway. I don't think I could make it to a BT get-together the night before, though, b/c a friend's wedding/reception is that evening.

I'll be there! This is my second tri and my first long course. I checked out the routes this weekend. The run looks great - windy trail around the lake beats running down a road anyday. The bike route will be LONG for me! Rolling hills, but nothing that seemed too steep. I didn't think to test the water temp...oops.
