Pre-race routine:

I was very distracted. We stayed with my parents and this was my first race w/ my wife so I didn't go through my normal routine. This resulted in forgetting a bunch of equipment and not being mentally prepared.
Event warmup:

Got in about a 10 minute jog and then a very short swim.
Swim
  • 17m 41s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

As usual, this was my worst event. With the fog it was difficult to see the bouys, so I tried to just follow the crowd. I had to flip on my back a couple times to calm my breathing, but overall it went better than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to work on navigation. I went off course a few times
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Went fairly quickly. The rocks were painful on the feet, but I survived. I forgot to secure my aero drink, so it fell off before I even left the transition area. Oh well...
What would you do differently?:

Double check my equipment.
Bike
  • 1h 36m 14s
  • 27.96 miles
  • 17.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Wet course combined with poor road conditions creates an interesting time for a poor cyclist such as myself. Really, the conditions were the problem. I've been in FL the past 5 months where there are no hills. This course was nothing but hills, and not the gently rolling kind that were advertised. My thighs were burning the entire time. Welcome home Andrew...

Also, I was slipping gears the entire time. Not fun as you try to climb a hill.
What would you do differently?:

Need to train on hills more and have my cables adjusted.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

With the rain I decided to wear socks. This took a significant amount of time.
What would you do differently?:

I will never run with socks on an Olympic race again.
Run
  • 46m 9s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt dead the first couple miles. I was able to pick up the pace for the rest of the run, but it was still significantly slower than normal. I can run a 10k in 40 minutes, so 46 was a shock. However, with the hills blasting my legs I shouldn't be too surprised.
What would you do differently?:

Don't wear socks!
Post race
Warm down:

The rain cooled me down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I trained in the wrong conditions.

Good job, even with those tough "welcome home hills"!

I had my running socks in a plastic sandwich bag, with some foot powder pre-squeezed into each sock.  It worked well!

Good job on the race, even with not being totally prepared. Pretty much same thing happened to me, but i'm not as fast a runner as you are....I camped with a 3yr old and a baby....Two cars next time.....

Good job on a tough course in tough conditions.

I did this race last year as my first Oly and remember the hills well.

I might try this next time, but I think skipping the socks all together would work best. At least you were thinking...
