With this warm weather, is there any chance it would get to 78 deg.? I've never swam in open water w/o a wetsuit...I'm screwed if it gets above 78! I never figured a Great Lake would get that warm.

It's going to be close, I can't imagine them disallowing wetsuits.

I went to the USAT website to look up the rule and it states:

Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

Fellow Fish,

Silver Beach in St. Joe reported water temps of 68F this morning.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/product.php?site=grr&product=omr&issuedby=i...

It may climb another couple of degrees, but we should be well within legal wetsuit temps. Sounds like we may also get an easterly wind which typically blows the warmer surface water back towards Milwaukee.

Air temps forecasted to drop into the 50's tonight and a some winds shifting to ENE should bring the water temp down a bit.  I give it a 99.9% probablity of wetsuit legal.  Damn near perfect race conditions!!!
