Is rotator cuff pain caused by bad position on the bike, getting used to areo position, or from being new to swimming?

i wanted to practice my ows today, but after my bike ride yesterday, my shoulder is not happy.

so i guess the run will suffice. anyway, is this a common problem when beginning a tri training plan?

thanks!

I found rotator cuff pain to be a result of the swimming rather than tri bike.

Several things to consider:

Swim position - are you using your shoulder exclusively for the pull rather than engaging your muscles that run along the sides of your back. It is like digging in with your armpits.

Stretching - you should be stretching after every workout - specifically shoulder and back stretches

Strength training - building strength in your upper body will help the swim and the tri bike positioning. Bent-arm pulldowns, upright row, bent over row, dead lifts all help build strength in your shoulders and middle back.

If it is simply muscle pain: use ibuprofen to ease the inflammation and ice on/off in 15 minute rotations. This will help the muscle heal.

Good luck!
