Age Group Rank = 20/50
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5 am, ate whole wheat english muffin with almond butter and bananna. Had some water and coffee on drive to race.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 16m 47s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

One of my goals was to improve my swim time and if I did it was not by much. A lot more people in age group start than last race and had a touch time getting through the traffic and getting into a rythym, kept bumping into people etc, etc.. Overall I felt fine coming out of water wish i had just gone faster.
What would you do differently?:

Take a swim lesson and figure out how to swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Wanted to take my time and get my breath back. Was a long run from bike stand to mount line and up a pretty steep incline with bike shoes on. Also one of clips fell off helmet when i went to put it on probably cost me 30 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

CHeck helmet clips beforehand. Move a touch faster.
Bike
  • 50m 28s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 18.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Good course enjoyed the ride but pretty challenging.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 2
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Forgot my hat again and had to run back and get it. Did not cost much time. Do not know why i took so long everything was fairly smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Cut 30 sec off.
Run
  • 23m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not drink anything which worked out well. Another of my goals was to really improve my run for last race which i did. Could have gone a bit faster in beginning but was mostly uphill and did not want to go out too fast and die at end.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a water, gatorade, half bagel. Sat down and watched a few other finish.Called the wife and told her i did not die and drove home.

Event comments:

SetUp puts on good events from what i can tell. Everything seem to go off without a hitch and the voluteers are great. I sometimes question some the the course layouts from a safety perspective but they may be limited in what they can do. Last race bike mount/dismount at bottom of steep hill, lots of wipeouts. This time hairpin turn at end after very steep hill. A little scary.

Course: Nice course, lots of hills, some pretty extreme by my standards. No place to really open it up all that much but a fun course. With all the hills HR wa spretty high the whoel time. Mapped out course online and drove in car in both cases course was about 1/2 mile longer.
