Total Time = 1h 30m 31s
Overall Rank = 64/243
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/16
Pre-race routine:

stayed the night at a friends house. Not much sleep. Had some Wheaties and fig newtons on the wat to the race
Event warmup:

Couldn't get int the water so I ran for a bit and stretched too.
Swim
  • 09m 1s
  • 704 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started in the back of the pack, unsure of my swimming skills. I came out of the water about half way throught the group. I should have started at the front. I found myself having to navigate around a lot of people. Maybe my skills aren't so bad?
What would you do differently?:

I will start at the front next time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Forgot to turn computer on bike when I started.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe some body glide on the claves.
Bike
  • 54m 4s
  • 16 miles
  • 17.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I killed on the bike. All the hills around here paid off. I think I had one person pass me the whole time. I passed about 25-thrity people, mostly on the hills. I just kept stomping the pedals and never looked backed. On the way to the transition, I pulled my feet out of the shoes, hopped off and one shoe caught the pavement and came off the clip. I had to run back and get it. Only a few seconds though.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

one shoe came off the bike as I ran, had to go back, but only cost me a few seconds. I even rand 2 racks past my rack. oops.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to the bike to make sure my shoe don't hit the ground and come off.
Run
  • 24m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was my weak spot. I had a side cramp about half way through the run. I saw the 1 and 2 mile mark and so I turned it up a bit, then later I saw the 2 mile mark for the sprint. I guess the other markers were for a different race length. There were a few people in front of me I wanted to catch but couldn't.
What would you do differently?:

I would like to improve my running all around. Also a watch would help to give me a better idea of timing and distance so I don't get confused and I know when to go hard and when not to.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked a round and stretched a bit. Got some snacks and fluids afterwards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only my second tri,and my first was smaller and less formal. All around, I am very pleased with my performance. If anything I just need more time training and more focus on the run.

Event comments:

Great event. Very organized, lots of volunteers and "treats" like drinks, snacks, massages, goody bags, small expo, lots of porta potties, live video, pictures and video available 2 days after on line, etc... I would love to do it again next year.
I will post times later when I get them.

Awesome job Mike!  You finished in the top half of a VERY competitive age group!!!  That is totally fantastic for only your second tri.  Loved your wife's slide show!  Hey, did you notice on one of the shots of you on the bike, does the guy behind you not have his helmet strapped?  Or maybe just something else showing up that way, but that's what it looks like.

Anyway, great job on the tri!
