It's 2 months away. Not quite time to panic, but close enough to start getting nervous.

This will be our first time in Austin. Does anyone have suggestions for lodging? Any local folks have suggestions for a place to do a BT get-together?

I'm doing the HIM and jamjam is hopefully in for the Sprint on Saturday depending on work and childcare considerations.

Hey Mike, Steve, John and I are staying at the Doubletree.  It's pretty close to the race site.  Tons of restaurants around there.

Here's the official list of hotels from the Endorfun website for the Longhorn:

http://www.endorfunsports.com/longhorn/longhornlodgings.html

Of the six or so on the list, the Hampton Inn is probably closest to the race site.

The Doubletree is really the closest to the race site, host hotel or not.

I'm in for both of these races, since we've got a big group from my company doing the race (37 out of 120 employees!). I'll take it nice and easy on Saturday and then crank it up for the half.

Going to be a blast.

I would suggest the Doubletree as well.  It's close, easy to get too and surrounded by good restaurants.  The bike course looks really fun as well, except for the last hill going back to the transition area.

Do a lot of people come out to this race and do the Half Iron?  How is the course?

This is the first year of the race, so there is no history on it.

On another note, I recently got a room at the Doubletree. I am going down on Thurs and would plan on riding some of the course on Friday. If anyone wants to join in, contact me and we will set up a time and place.

Looks like all the DFW crowd will be at the Doubletree.  Have to start making plans for a group dinner

I believe there are 800+ signed up for the HIM. That seems like "alot" to me

Any of the hotels in downtown Austin will be great choices. All are only about 15 minutes from the race site, near packet pickup, in the middle of restaurants and music, right next to Barton Springs and Town Lake Trails, bike lanes to double check your bike after travel.

Here's directions from downtown to race site:

Saturday morning will be the Olympic and Sprint races and bike check in for the HIM. I'm sure the lake will be open to boat traffic after the race, so you may or may not get a good shot at an OWS there, but Barton Springs is great. 1/8 mile long, fresh spring water, 68 degrees year round.

I don't see why you couldn't jump in anytime after the Sprint/Oly swimmers are out of the water.  It's a public lake.

You'd be fine to swim in the lake after the race...The only access to the lake is through Walter E. Long Park, which will be closed for the race on race morning...So, there will be boat access later in the day. Still, there isn't a ton of boat traffic out there....

Yes, I need a roommate.  I've been procrastinating as usual and haven't even thought about lodging.

I don't snore, so you should be able to get some good sleep.  Let me know if it's all cool.

sweetness!!

sounds good to me... I'll be booking a room at the doubletree since it seems that's where everyone from DFW is staying.  I know I'm getting a room for saturday evening and I might just extend it for sunday night then drive back monday morning, if I get that day off.

Just wanted to chime in here as I'm doing the HIM.   I just did Timberman last weekend and it was my favorite race to date!  If any of you haven't done one of Keith's races before, you're in for real treat!

FYI, my parents live in Austin so I'll be crashing with them, but I definitely want to get together will all the BT'ers when and wherever we decide.

Glad you liked Timberman, but it'd be great if you didn't raise the expectations for Longhorn too high

Everything's rolling along for Longhorn, and hope to make it Timberman 2

Must...sleep...now......

You'd never know it was taper time by my schedule for the week.  Sometimes I miss the pre-coach days when I would have a 3-week taper (and that was before a sprint!)
